The first signs of carbon monoxide poisoning are flu–like symptoms: headaches,
dizziness, burning eyes and nose, dry mouth and throat and nausea. If you are
aware of these symptoms, your heater may not be working correctly or there is
inadequate ventilation. You must ensure that fresh air is provided immediately! Have
the heater checked and/or ensure that there is adequate ventilation. One person may
be more sensitive to carbon monoxide than another. Pregnant women, people with
heart or lung problems or anaemia, the elderly and people under the influence of
alcohol are at an increased risk. Never use the heater in living-, work- or sleeping
areas!
Know you heater: ensure that you (and any other heater users) understand the
instruction booklet and the labels on the heater. This will ensure you are aware of
where it can be used, its limitations and any potential hazards.
Never use the heater in a dangerous environment: not outdoors, where it is
exposed to all weather conditions, or in damp/wet/dusty locations. Do not use the
heater in places containing flammable or ignitable liquids or gases, e.g. fuels, paint,
solvents, chemicals, etc. This poses the risk of explosion! Moreover, keep your
heater away from flammable materials such as building materials, wood, paper,
curtains, etc.
Always ensure there is sufficient safe space around the heater.
Keep children and inexperienced persons out of the vicinity of the workplace:
all visitors must be kept at a safe distance from the heater.
Prevent unexpected starting: check that the switch is OFF before you insert the
plug into the socket.
Stay alert: always be aware of what you are doing and use your common sense. Do
not use or operate the heater if you are tired or under the influence of alcohol, drugs,
or medicines that impact upon your response times.
Make sure that you remove the plug from the socket: always remove the plug
when the heater is not being used, before you carry out maintenance or replenish
fuel.
Store the heater safely when it is not in use: keep it in a dry, locked cupboard, out
of the reach of children. Empty the fuel.
Use the heater for its intended purpose only. Do not make any changes or
connect anything to it. If you are not sure of whether the heater can be used, contact
your supplier or the importer.
Only have your heater repaired by a qualified person: the heater fulfils safety
