7.5 Toothed belt tension
Before starting any work on the linear unit, any electrical drives used are to be pro-
tected against accidental switching on.
All timing belts in linear units need tension, which is required to guarantee safe engaging of the
teeth.
The timing belt tension is set at the factory to a usable level of 80% of the catalogue value of the
timing belt force Fx. A correction is not required as long as this value is maintained (see section
6.4.2).
If higher loads occur in use which differ from this, the pre-tension must be adjusted. The corre-
sponding pre-tension values depend upon the length of the unit, acceleration and loads to be
moved, for example, and can be requested for these special usage cases from RK Rose + Krieger
GmbH.
The required pretensioning of the timing belt must be checked using a suitable pretensioning me-
asurement appliance.
Too high a pre-tension will lead to the toothed belt breaking, bearing overload and
reduction of working life.
You can tension the timing belt using the timing belt tensioning kit.
Turn the hidden screw (2) on the front of the carriage clockwise and tighten up the screw evenly.
Timing belt (1) is tensioned..

The timing belt of the linear unit must be replaced every 8 years irrespective of the
amount of use and the environmental influences.
