Safety Information for Clamping Equipment
1. Safety/Symbol Key
This symbol can be found anywhere where there is
danger to personnel or danger of damage to the clamping
equipment.
2. Correct Usage
The clamping equipment is only to be used in accordance
with the technical data given here. Correct usage also
includes conformity with the conditions for setting up,
installing, operating the machine, as well as environmental
and maintenance conditions, as prescribed by the manu-
facturer. Any application beyond this does not constitute
correct usage. The manufacturer is not responsible for
any damage resulting from incorrect usage.
3. Safety Advice
This clamping equipment has been built in accordance
with current standards of technology and is reliable. The
clamping equipment is only dangerous if, for example:
- The clamping equipment is set-up, installed or main-
tained incorrectly
- The clamping equipment is used in a manner that
contravenes "correct usage"
- The EU machine guidelines, the regulations regarding
accident prevention, the guidelines from the association
of German electricians, and the safety and installation
recommendations were not adhered to
4. Personnel & Installation Safety
4.1 Clamping work pieces correctly is the responsibility
of the operator. Clamping must be carefully checked by
trained personnel.
When using different clamping geometries, working with
different bearing surfaces, friction values or clamping
forces, or if the machine is used incorrectly etc., you must
take into account the possibility that a work piece could
come loose or fly out.
Safeguards must be put in place on the processing
machine itself to protect the operator from flying tools or
work pieces. Operators and third parties are required to
wear protective glasses when in the vicinity of the
processing machine.

4.2 Anyone who is responsible for installing, setting up
and maintaining the equipment must have read and
understand the entire operating instructions – particularly
the section regarding safety. We recommend that the
customer have this confirmed in writing.
4.3 The machine can only be installed, removed, connec-
ted and set-up by authorised personnel.
4.4 Operating methods that affect the function and opera-
tional security of the clamping equipment are forbidden.
4.5 In some cases, incorrect usage is acceptable, but only
with consultation and written approval from the manufac-
turer.
5. Changing Jaws
If jaws are insufficiently tightened, damage may result.
6. Advice on using Clamping Technology
The operator must ensure that the clamp geometry and
the clamping strength correspond to the chosen proces-
sing method.
The given clamping forces can only be reached if the
clamping equipment is functioning correctly, and the work
piece is clamped correctly. Regular maintenance and
cleaning in accordance with the operating instructions is
necessary to ensure correct functioning.
For elastic, thin-walled work pieces, e.g. pipes or when
clamping groups of work pieces (package clamping) the
clamping force may be considerably reduced by deflection
of the work pieces.
Every 0.1 mm of spring deflection results in a loss in
clamping force of 5kN.
Clamping can be improved by prestressing using an
adjustable spindle.
Where strong clamping is required, the clamping force is
considerably reduced by the increased friction in the slide
valve. The loss of clamping force at clamping heights of
100 mm above the base is approx. 40%.
When clamping using a grip jaw, post-tensioning must be
carried out. In systems with force intensification, the impres-
sion stroke ensures that full clamping force is not reached
during the initial clamping.
7. Warranty
The warranty is valid for 24 months in accordance with
correct usage in 1-shift operation and under compliance
with the prescribed maintenance and lubrication intervals.
Parts that come into contact with work pieces as well as
wear parts are not under warranty. For further information,
see our general terms and conditions.
Wear parts are generally parts such as seals and any
parts that become worn by using the product.
