7. Operating instructions
Make sure that the clamp properly encircles the conductor, and that
there is no air gap between the jaws. Also make sure that you are
enclosing all relevant conductors (L1, L2, L3 plus neutral wire N for
3‐phase systems and L1 and N for single phase systems.)
NOTE: Leakage current can be an indicator of the effectiveness of
insulation on conductors. High levels of leakage current may be
present in circuits where electronic equipment with filters is used,
and can cause voltages that disrupt normal operation of equipment.
It is possible to locate the source of leakage current by using a low
current leakage current clamp to take methodical measurements as
described below.
Measurement of Leaking Current to Ground
1. Set the rotary switch always to
the highest available range.
2. Open the jaws and insert the
ground conductor through the
jaws. Make sure the jaws are
perpendicular
conductor.
3. Close the clamp and make sure
the tops of the jaws are
properly shut.
4. Once the reading stabilizes, read the value. Use the DATA HOLD
function if the reading is difficult to read.
