damp. You can avoid this by spraying these parts with WET PROTECT preservation
spray, Order No. 968.50. The cooling air outlet is located on the underside of the left-
hand fuselage shell (12) at a point about 25 mm (1") aft of the second undercarriage
support bracket (26). If you prefer, you can leave the cooling air openings closed
initially, and only open them up later if the motor shows signs of overheating.
Decals
It is not necessary to paint the SOLIDPOR® parts. If you wish to do so, we
recommend using GRAUPNER LEXACOLOR spray paints, Order No. 945... Lightly
wipe the parts beforehand with Spannfix thinners, Order No. 1409; on no account
sand the SOLIDPOR® surfaces. Cut out the name placard decals and apply them to
the airframe in the arrangement shown in the kit box illustration; your model is now
complete.
Balancing
Assemble the model completely, ready to fly, and support it under the wing roots at a
point 70 mm aft of the leading edge. The model should now balance level when
supported at this point. If necessary adjust the position of the LiPo flight battery.
Flying
For the first flight wait for a day with flat calm conditions or no more than a very light
breeze. Check that all the control surfaces are exactly at the 'neutral' (centre)
position. The ideal flying site is a large, smooth, unobstructed area of closely-mown
grass, as this will allow the model to take off from the ground.
The model can be hand-launched, or taken off from the ground or water. In
either case launch directly into any breeze. If flying from water, increase motor
power continuously to prevent the model veering off to one side.
For hand-launching the correct initial speed is obtained by trotting forward for
a few paces. For water flying you will need an inland lake approved for model flying.
Make sure that you leave sufficient battery capacity after each flight to allow the
model to taxi back to the bank. Initially use the flying controls as little as possible, just
using minor aileron and elevator corrections to keep the aeroplane climbing steadily,
straight into wind. Fine-tuning can be carried out using the trim sliders below and
adjacent to the transmitter sticks. All landings must be carried out directly into wind,
preferably with the motor running slowly rather than stopped. Just before touch-down
apply gentle up-elevator to slow the aircraft down. Always land straight into wind!
Auxiliary working systems
Once you have gathered plenty of experience flying the model, you can try installing
a Fly Cam One²® (Order No. 8062) for aerial photography. We suggest that you glue
the mounting clip (46) under the right wing, so that the propeller disc is located
outside the field of view of the lens.
You can also try aero-towing small RC gliders such as the DISCUS 2CT (Order No.
4217). The glider should be attached to the tug by a nylon cord about twenty metres
long, and is best hand-launched. For aero-towing the model should be fitted with a
three-cell LiPo battery to ensure that adequate power is available.
All of us at GRAUPNER Modellbau hope you have many enjoyable flights with your
