Use of units in potentially explosive atmospheres

In potentially explosive atmospheres only such units may be used which com-
ply with the basic safety and health requirements of directive 94/9/EC. Explo-
sion-proof units meeting this requirement carry the CE mark of conformity,
followed by the identification number of the Notified Body supervising the qua-
lity assurance system and the explosion protection symbol .

Hazard degree in potentially explosive atmospheres

There are potentially explosive atmospheres (zones, hazardous areas) with
different hazard degrees. The units may only be used in those zones which
have no higher hazard degree than that indicated by the manufacturer's speci-
fication of unit group and category on the unit. The company or party operating
the units and the system is responsible for defining these zones.

Rechargeable batteries for explosion-proof units

Operate explosion-proof units only with the matching and approved explosion-
proof batteries! You can identify the allowed combination of unit and recharge-
able battery from the lettering on the unit housing. The use of other batteries
which are not expressly approved is strictly forbidden as otherwise the opera-
ting permit of the units in hazardous areas will expire due to the missing explo-
sion protection and because such a unit constitutes a safety risk!
Allowed combination:
Explosion-proof units may be operated only with the explosion-proof re-
chargeable battery, part no. 50 1082 8000.

Replacing the batteries

The batteries of the explosion-proof units may be replaced only outside of the
hazardous areas. The company or party operating the system and the units is
responsible for execution of the battery replacement with the necessary care
and for compliance with the designed safety precautions – in that case proper
screwing-on of the battery with the locking screw.
