4. Use. Fig. 1
When the filter is used to its maximum capacity, i.e 3 connected
users the available compressor capacity must be at least 900 l/
min. The consumption of any tools connected to this system must
be added to the above values.
The compressor air intake must be located so that there will be no
risk of polluted air being drawn into the system.
SR 99
• The filter has two outlets (12), one of which is plugged prior to
delivery. Fit the safety coupling supplied.
• The inlet thread (1) of the filter is 1 /2" BSP female. Fit a suitable
coupling/nipple.
• The filter drain is opened automatically when the air supply is
shut off.The drain can also be opened manually (Fig. 2). The filter
should be drained once per working shift.
• The filter element is fitted prior to delivery. Note the date on the
label at the outside of the filter housing to be enable you to keep
track of the date when the filter should be changed.
• The SR 99 is equipped with keyhole mountings for mounting it
on a wall, but it can also be stood on a suitable surface.
SR 99H
• Mount the supplied male nipple to the inlet of the air heater.
• Mount the supplied safety coupling to the non-plugged outlet.
• Connect the compressed air filter to the air heater with the
supplied hose. Fig 11.
• Connect the air heater to an earthed power outlet
• Connect the air supply to the compressed air filter.
• Turn the presetting knob (8) clockwise until the green lamp (10)
lights up. Then gradually increase the output until the required
temperature of the outlet air is reached. The maximum attainable
temperature is around 85 °C.
• Connect the compressed air tube from the air heater to the
control valve of the face piece. To get best heat efficiency make
sure that the compressed air tube between the air heater and
control valve is as short as possible and that the compressed
air tube is not lying in snow etc.
• To switch off the heater element, turn the presetting knob anti-
clockwise as far as it will go, and disconnect the power supply
plug.
The overheating protection in the electrical distribution box may trip
if, for example, the air flow is interrupted. The red warning lamp (9)
will then indicate that this has occurred. To reset the overheating
protection, proceed as follows:
• Switch off the heater element by turning the presetting knob
anti-clockwise as far as it will go. The green lamp (14) will then
be switched off.
• Allow the heater element to cool down.
• Press the reset button (7).
• Switch on the heater element as described earlier.
5. Filter change
Under normal operating conditions, the filter element has a useful
life of around six months. However, the useful life may vary widely,
depending on the condition of the compressed air system and the
air flow rate through the filter. The condition of the filter element
can be assessed by weighing. The original weight is shown on the
filter element. If the weight has increased by about 100-150 grams,
the filter should be changed. If the smell or taste of the impurities
become detectable, the filter should immediately be changed:
• Shut off the air inlet.
• Press in the ring on the underside of the drain valve to depres-
surize the filter. Fig. 2.
16
• Loosen the hose between the regulator and filter lid by pushing
the red sleeve on the coupling and disconnect the hose from the
lid. Fig 3.
• Unscrew the knobs of the filter housing and remove the lid. Fig 4.
• Remove the used filter element. Fig 5. Clean and wipe if necces-
sary.
• Check the seals and change if they are damaged. Fig 6. Two
seals (A and D) seals towards the filter housing (C). Seal (E) seals
against the clean side of the filter element (B) towards the outlet.
• Mount the new filter element. This has identical ends and can
be fitted either way round. Fig. 6.
Then assemble the filter:
• Refit the cover. Fig. 4.
• Connect the hose between the control valve and filter lid by
pushing the hose into the connector. Fig 3.
• Check that the pads on the cover and end caps fit into their
grooves. Fig. 7.
• Tighten the knobs alternately by hand until the lid meets the filter
housing.
Dispose of used filters in an appropriate manner, observing the
relevant rules and instructions.
6. Cleaning
Clean the outside of the filter as necessary, using soapy water
and a sponge or brush. The filter can also be blown clean with the
compressed air or flushed with water. This also applies to the SR
99H that has degree of protection IP65 and can thus be flushed
with water. However, always switch off the power supply and
disconnect the power supply plug before cleaning. The regulator
with pre-collector and drain bowl should preferably be cleaned in
conjunction with changing the filter element:
Regulator with pre-collector SR 99
• Shut of the air inlet.
• Push the ring at the bottom of the pre-collector to depressurize
the filter. Fig 2.
• Remove the guard. Slide the black locking device down and turn
the guard anti-clockwise (bayonet mounting) (Fig. 8).
• Remove the drain bowl. Push it upwards and turn it anti-clock-
wise (bayonet mounting). Wash the bowl in hot water (not solvent)
at a maximum of 60 °C (Fig. 9).
• Remove the pre-collector element by turning it anti-clockwise
(Fig. 10).
• Blow the parts clean with compressed air. Check that the drain
outlet is not obstructed.
• Assemble the regulator with pre-collector. Take great care to
ensure that the guard is in its locked position.
7. Warnings
• The filter in SR 99 must always be depressurized before the filter
element is changed or other work is done on the filter.
• For the SR 99H, make sure that an earth fault switch is installed.
• The SR 99H can be flushed with water but must never be allowed
to stand in water.
• The heater element cover must never be removed.
• At maximum power, the heater element may become hot and
may cause burns if touched.
• If the power supply cable is to be changed or if other work is
to be done on the heater element or the electrical distribution
box, this may be done only by a person who has the necessary
knowledge. Get in touch with your distributor or with Sundström
Safety AB.
• The SR 99H must not be connected to uncleaned compressed
air.
