near the label containing identification and that the label
is not crumpled by the effects of the load, the crane hook
or the looped sling.
2.8 Magnum-X round slings may not be tautened or pulled
over sharp edges as this creates a hazard of cutting or pre-
mature rupture. A sharp edge can be considered to exist if
the radius of the edge "r" is equal to/smaller than the
thickness of the contact area "d" of the round sling. When
working with sharp edges, it is essential to use suitable
edge protectors. secutex-protective sleeves SF1, SF2 and
SC are particularly suitable for hoisting sharp-edged loads,
regardless of the conditions of use. Please find more de-
tailed information on this on our Home Page, www.span-
set.de, or get more information and advice from our
application engineer or one of our representatives.
2.9 Please note: The Magnum-X round sling is subject to a
considerably lower elongation in use than conventional
slings made of polyester. For this reason, whilst lifting
loads, particular care must be taken to avoid jerks during
hoisting and lowering that can lead to load peaks.
3. Use of Magnum-X round slings
Carefully plan the load slinging, lifting and lower ing ope-
rations prior to the actual load handling procedure. Pro-
ceed with the utmost care to ensure the complete safety
of personnel during the lifting operations. Snatch or shock
loading must be avoided otherwise excessive forces can
result which may endanger personnel or cause damage to
the load.
People standing within the vicinity must be warned that a
lifting operation is about to be carried out and,
if necessary, they should be moved out of the danger area.
Never stand under suspended loads. Hands and other
limbs must be kept well away from the lifting slings to
avoid injuries as the slings become taut.

3.1 The following factors are to be considered when selec-
ting an appropriate lifting sling:
- Weight of the Lift
The weight of the load to be lifted can be esta-
blished by weighing or by calculation. Impor-
tant: Lifting slings must not be loaded
beyond their rated lifting capacity!
- Lifting points on the load
The lifting points must be suita bly
rated taking into account the
angle of the lift.
- Centre-of-gravity position
of the load
This determines the position
of the crane hook over the load, and
thus the length and inclined angle of
the lifting sling.
- Inclined angle of the lifting
sling
The maximum inclined angle to ver-
tical is 60°. Wider angles are pro hi-
bited.
Beware! Failure to observe these particu-
!
larly important warnings may mean that
the functioning of Magnum-X round slings
is no longer guaranteed! Severe accidents
with injuries or even death may be the re-
sult.
- Do not overload Magnum-X round slings: overloa-
ding may lead to rupture or damage of the Ma-
gnum-X round sling.
- Magnum-X round slings may not be
knotted or twisted where they hold
the load: this may result in considera-
ble loss of load capacity.
