2 Description and operation

The MPM supplies the high voltage required by Simco-Ion ionisation equipment. There are four
high voltage outputs to which ionisation equipment can be connected. The high voltage is
stabilised and is protected against overload. LED indicators on the cover show the status of the
MPM:
- [Power]
- [Remote]
- [High Voltage]
- [overload]
The MPM with I/O connector (MPM-xxR) has the following
remote control functions:
- Remote switching on/off of high voltage.
- "High voltage ON" remote signalling.
- "Overload" remote signalling.
- External 24 V DC power supply, max. 100 mA.
- Ion balance control.
- Biphase control.

3 Safety

The following safety guidelines must be observed in order to prevent physical injury and
damage to objects or the MPM itself.
Warning:
- Electrical installation must be performed in accordance with the applicable national and local
regulations
- Electrical installation, maintenance and repair must only be carried out by a skilled electrical
engineer
- Disconnect the power supply before carrying out work on the unit.
- The MPM is only intended as a power source for Simco-Ion ionisation equipment
- The MPM may not be used in environments that pose a fire or explosion hazard
- The MPM should not be exposed to vibrations or knocks
- The equipment must be properly earthed. Earthing is needed to ensure safe and proper
operation and to prevent electrical shocks upon contact.
- The equipment loses its CE approval and guarantee if changes, adaptations, etc.
are made without prior written approval, or if original parts are
not used for repairs.
The maximum output current (short-circuit current) of the MPM is restricted to 3 mA. Touching
the high voltage of the MPM will lead to an unpleasant electric shock that can cause a shock
reaction. If there is a short circuit, the high voltage switches off. The high voltage will switch on
every two seconds and switch off again until the short circuit is rectified.
