OPERATION
OPERATING THE ROTARY CUTTER
See Figure 7, page 9.
WARNING:
Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry when
operating tool. They could get caught in moving
parts causing serious injury. Keep head away from
tool and work area. Hair could be drawn into tool
causing serious injury.
WARNING:
Unsecured work could be thrown towards the
operator causing injury.
 Examine the rotary cutter accessories carefully. Damaged
accessories can fly apart as they come up to speed and
should not be used. The use of damaged accessories
can result in serious personal injury.
 Hold the tool and get used to its weight and balance.
 Practice on scrap materials first to see how the tool
operates. Keep in mind that the work is done by the speed
of the tool and by the accessory in the collet. You should
not lean on or push the tool into the work.
 When using grinding bits, it is best to make a series of
passes with the tool rather than attempt to do all the work
in one pass. To make a cut, pass the tool back and forth
over the work like you would a small paint brush. Cut a
little material on each pass until you reach the desired
depth. For most work, a gentle touch is best; you will
have greater control, make fewer errors, and get the most
efficient work out of the accessory.
 Unless using the drywall bit, secure all work in a vise or
clamp to a workbench to prevent it from moving under
the tool.
 Hold the tool in front and away from you, keeping the tool
accessory clear of the workpiece.
 Place the direction of rotation selector on the power base
in the forward position.
NOTICE:
To prevent damage to the tool, only operate the
rotary cutter in the forward direction.
 Slide the trigger lock to the right, depress the switch
trigger on the power base, then release the trigger lock
to start the tool. Allow the motor and accessory to build
up to full speed.
NOTE: The trigger lock resets each time the trigger is
released.
WARNING:
If, after extended use, the trigger lock fails to
reset, remove the rotary cutter head and blow out
dust from around the trigger with an air hose. If
this does not correct the issue, take the tool to
an authorized factory service center for repair.
Unintended actuation of the switch trigger could
lead to serious injury.
 Lower the tool gradually until the accessory contacts the
workpiece, then move the tool continuously at a steady,
consistent pace.
NOTE: When using the drywall bit, start at a 45° angle
to allow the bit to enter the drywall and then move in a
counterclockwise direction.
 Use just enough pressure to keep the tool from chattering
or bouncing.
NOTE: Heavy pressure will decrease the tool's speed and
put a strain on the motor. The weight of the tool alone is
adequate for most jobs.
 Lift the tool away from the workpiece before turning off
the tool.
