LED #1 - SOURCE battery / supply voltage verification - Minimum start up voltage:
10.5V. Minimum running voltage (after start up): 10V. Ideal running voltage: 12V or
higher. Maximum start up / running voltage: 16V.
NORMAL: LED #1 flashes for 5 seconds to verify SOURCE voltage, then turns full ON if
confirmed stable and within range. LED #3 / #4 light to confirm the TARGET battery is
receiving charge. Charging continues if LED #1 remains ON.
ERROR (NO CHARGE IS DELIVERED / CHARGING TOO SLOW).
1. LED #1 does not turn on - Source voltage is below 9V or supply connections are
reversed / inverse polarity.
2. LED #1 flashing, never turns full ON: supply is below / above the minimum /
maximum voltage range accepted by the charger (see above).
3. LED #1 alternates between full ON and flashing: Source battery voltage is low and /
or unstable. Possible causes: charger is too far away from source battery / other
electrical equipment is simultaneously drawing power from the source battery /
vehicle's engine was started / too many electrical circuits draw power from the same
line / vehicle's charging system voltage too low when running (Expected: 14V to 14.6V.)
4. TARGET battery never reaches full charge (LED #4 never turns on) - Too low or
unstable source voltage is the major cause of incomplete charging. Charge current is
reduced to 1A if source voltage is below 12V, and charging is interupted when source
voltage drops below 10V. Another cause may be insufficient charge time between
equipment use. Estimated charge time for completely discharged 18Ah battery: 9 hours,
or 18 hours if source voltage (at the charger) never rises above 12V.
5. LED #2 flashing - TARGET battery connections are inversed.
LED #3 CHARGE - The multi-step program brings the TARGET battery to full charge in the
shortest possible time.
Low voltage save - Charging starts from as low as 2 Volts. A pulse recovery /
desulphation charge is delivered to aid recovery of the battery.
Bulk - current up to 2A is delivered until the battery voltage reaches 14.3V.
Pulsed absorption - Current is now delivered in pulses up to a voltage of 14.4V, to balance
the cells within the battery and complete charging.
LED #4 24-7 MAINTAIN - The TARGET battery is first tested and then maintained at full
charge at a safe float voltage of 13.6V.
Test - No charge is delivered for 30 minutes, to determine the battery's ability to hold
charge. GOOD BATTERY - LED #4 (green) should remain on.
BAD BATTERY - LED #3 and #4 alternates every 1-2 seconds. The battery is unable to
hold charge and should be professionally tested and/or replaced.
Maintenance charge - current up to 0.2A is delivered at a float voltage of 13.6V.
Reversion to CHARGE (LED #4 to LED #3) - the charge program reverts to BULK mode
(LED #3) if the TARGET battery voltage drops below 12.8V.
Maintaining a battery for extended periods: At least once every two weeks, check that
the connections between the charger, SOURCE supply and TARGET battery are secure.
In case of batteries with filler caps on each cell, disconnect the battery from the charger,
check the level of the electrolyte and if necessary, top up the cells (with distilled water,
NOT acid), then reconnect. When handling batteries or in their vicinity, always take care to
observe the SAFETY WARNINGS above.
