4.2.4 Relationship between the infrared radiators and the seating arrangement

An optimum signal is achieved when the receiver has direct visual contact with the infrared radiator.
If the receiver is located outside of the optical axis, then the received power decreases. However,
provided that there is no obstacle between the receiver and the radiator, the received power can still be
sufficient.
In order to achieve optimum transmission quality, the spatial radiator arrangement must be matched to
the seating arrangement. Ideally, the infrared radiator should transmit directly to the seats. See also
figure 3 - 6. In reality, this is only rarely the case. For this reason, reflections have to be used.
Figure 5 shows the receiver of the delegate receiving not only the direct beam but also the reflections.
In this situation, the reflected signal can boost the actual signal. In figure 6, the receiver of the delegate
only receives the reflected signals and, although the signal that it receives is weaker, it is nevertheless
strong enough. To prevent other delegates from blocking the signal (see figure 3), the infrared radiator
should be installed at a minimum height of 2.50 metres.
