20.2 Maintenance of the paper
drills
• Re-sharpen the drills in good
time. Blunt drills can be recog-
nised when the drill holes fray.
• Drill through wax paper several
times daily in order to grease the
drill internally. Otherwise accumu-
lated paper slugs can lead to drill
breakage.
• Whenever the machine is not
used for some days, the paper
slugs should be removed from the
drills.
Otherwise
dampness which leads to rust in
the drill and thereby to stiffness
and drill breakage.
Paper drills are items subject to
wear and tear and are not covered
by guarantee.

20.3 Drill resharpening
In order that the drill has as long a
life as possible, care must be taken
that the drill bit is always sharp.
As a general rule of thumb, re-
sharpening should be carried out
after ca. 400 drillings.
It is important for the serviceable life
of the drills to use a drill underlay
(special
cardboard,
6970001), which the drill should
only slightly slit after accurate depth
adjustment.
Coated drills (tin, teflon or hardened
chrome) should be returned for re-
sharpening.
Otherwise, care should be taken
with resharpening so that no further
use of the sharpening stone (see
below) is necessary, or else the
coating will be removed.
Resharpening of the drills with the
drill sharpener (item no. 1950282):
• The drill remains clamped in the
machine for sharpening. The di-
rection of rotation of the drill spin-
dle must be in the direction of the
arrow (71).
• With the machine switched off,
remove paper slugs from the drill
with the drill sharpener pin (72).
• Select a slow revolution speed
setting (if possible) and switch on
the machine.
For CB 490/690 revolution speed
setting 1.
