3.3
ADJUSTMENT OF THE MECHANICAL ZERO
The mechanical zero is factory adjusted and does not need to be readjusted by the user as long as the instrument is
handled carefully. In the odd case this should be required anyhow the following procedure has to be followed:
• Carefully clean both the base of your WYLER nivelSWISS and the horizontally adjusted and flat reference surface,
e.g. the measuring surface of a granite plate
• Place the level on the reference surface with the display instrument to the front and mark its position exactly (see
drawing below at the left)
• Check the battery voltage (see chapter 6.1)
• Switch the level on, select range II. Then turn the turning knob into a middle of its rotation range
• Set the indication roughly to zero by turning the eccentric screw on the back of the level with the aid of a 2 mm he-
xagonal spanner (see below to the right)
• As the next step, turn the nivelSWISS by 180° and place it again exactly on the marked position now with the display
instrument to the back (see in the drawing below at the right)
• Turn the eccentric screw at the rear of the instrument until the indicated value has reduced to half the value. Use the
hexagonal spanner (2 mm)
• Now the adjustment made must be verified by a reversal measurement procedure according to 3.2
4.
MEASUREMENT
• For safety reasons always check the battery charge (see chapter 6.1) before switching the instrument on
• To get reliable measurement results, carefully clean the measuring faces of your level as well as that of the measu-
ring object
• Always place your instrument carefully and without shatter at the measuring location
• Especially when measuring cylindrical shafts it is important to assure a vertical position of the instrument. The cor-
rect position can easily be checked by looking at the transversal vial. If the level is not held vertically, deviations will
arise which are called "Twist errors"
• Depending on the measuring uncertainty you wish to achieve, a special attention should be paid to the temperature
between the electronic level and the measuring object. If necessary, wait until temperature has stabilised (for highest
precision the temperature range should be at 20°C ± 0.5°)
• Before starting a measurement make sure that the display settings according to chapter 3 have been performed or
checked
• After completion of your measuring work, store your level as explained in chapter 5
