3.
ADJUSTING THE INDICATOR
Before you start measuring with your WYLER nivelSWISS, make sure the indication is properly adjusted according to the
following instructions:
1.
Mechanical zero setting of the pointer with the level switched off (s 3.1)
2.
Check of the display setting by a reversal measurement and adjustment of zero (s 3.2)
Important Remarks:
• With careful use and handling of the instrument the additional mechanical adjustment at the back of the instrument
according to 3.3 is normally not required by the user since this is already factory adjusted
• It is important to follow the exact procedure as described here after for the adjustment of the indicator
Because of their construction, the WYLER nivelSWISS is very sensitive to shocks. Therefore, they should never be
placed abruptly on a surface or suffer bad knocks as such impact can damage the mechanical pendulum suspen-
sion. During transportation the instrument has to be handled carefully as well (see also chapter 5.)
3.1
MECHANICAL ZERO SETTING OF THE POINTER
• Carefully clean both the base of your WYLER nivelSWISS and the horizontally adjusted and flat reference surface,
e.g. the measuring surface of a granite plate
• Place the level on the reference surface with the display instrument to the front
• When the instrument is switched off, the pointer must be in line with the zero line of the analogue display. Any devi-
ation from zero can very carefully be corrected with the aid of a screwdriver (see drawing in chapter 2)
3.2
DISPLAY SETTING THROUGH A REVERSAL MEASUREMENT
An electronic inclination measuring instrument is only indicating the absolute Zero correctly if with a reversal measurement,
both values are identical but with opposite preceding signs, respectively if both values are zero.
For this adjustment we use a „reversal measurement" as follows:
• Carefully clean both the base of your WYLER nivelSWISS and the horizontally adjusted and flat reference surface,
e.g. the measuring surface of a granite plate
• Place the level on the reference surface with the display instrument to the front and mark its position exactly (see
drawing below at the left)
• Check the battery voltage (see chapter 6.1)
• Switch the level on, select range II. Then set the display by turning the turning knob to zero (see in the drawing under
chapter 2)
Note: In case the setting range of the turning knob is not sufficient there can be 2 reasons:
1) either the surface is not horizontal enough and has to be better adjusted.
or
2) the mechanical zero of the instrument has been changed e.g. by a mechanical impact. In such
a case the instrument has to be readjusted according to point 3.3
• As the next step, turn the nivelSWISS by 180° and place it again exactly on the marked position now with the display
instrument to the back (see in the drawing below at the right)
• Read the value and correct it with the turning knob in the front to half the indicated value
• Turn the instrument back 180°. Now the same value should be indicated but with opposite preceding sign. If this
should not be the case the reversal measurement has to be repeated
