Replacing the element
The element may only be replaced after the filter has
been removed from service and the pressure relieved.
Danger if unauthorised work is carried out on the
element change aid!
The element is only allowed to be replaced by a
suitably trained person.
Recover any fluids which leak while replacing
the element.
Please always ensure that you have a sufficient quantity of
original Filtration Group replacement parts in stock.
Disposable elements (PS, Mic, KS-Mic, Sm-x or Sm-N)
cannot be cleaned.
Where possible, clean all parts and inspect them for
damage whenever the element is changed. Any damaged
parts must be replaced immediately!
Keep all impurities away from the clean side of the filter
element while it is being replaced! Be careful not to
damage the wire cloth of the element or the inside with
sharp or pointed objects!
Refer to the relevant data sheet for the maximum
tightening torques.
The steps described below merely represent a general
procedure for replacing the element.
Refer to the relevant data sheet for specific
instructions regarding your particular filter!
Take any necessary safety precautions (protective
clothing, eye protection, gloves, etc.).
Shut down the system and relieve the pressure on the
discharge side of the filter.
Duplex filters: Shift the switch-over handle to the
required position, then loosen the vent screw two or
three turns on the non-operational filter side.
Open the drain plug and discharge screw (if any) and
drain the filter housing.
Unscrew the filter housing or cover by turning it anti-
clockwise and clean it using a suitable cleaner.
Caution if the filter is a duplex filter: From now on, it
is strictly forbidden to shift the switch-over handle until
the filter housing is screwed back in again!
Remove the filter element by gently moving it to and fro.
Inspect all sealing and back-up rings (if any) for damage
and replace them if necessary. We recommend
replacing them whenever you replace the filter element.
Be careful not to scratch or otherwise damage the
groove while installing or removing O-rings. Use an
assembly tool (O-ring puller) to do this if necessary.
Make sure the order number on the replacement
element matches the number indicated on the filter
name-plate.
To protect the element from fouling when it is replaced,
first open the plastic bag and then push the element
over the spigot in the filter head. Then completely
remove the plastic bag.
Clean and oil the thread of the filter housing. Now screw
it into the filter head and tighten to the specified
assembly torque (refer to the data sheet).

DANGER!
WARNING!
If the filter has a drain plug: Inspect the plug seals for
fouling and damage. Clean and replace them if
necessary. Tighten the drain plug to the specified
assembly torque (refer to the data sheet).
Duplex filters: If the filter has a pressure relief valve,
open the vent screw, then fill the housing via this valve
until all the air has escaped and the fluid exits without
any bubbles. Then tighten the vent screw to the
specified assembly torque (refer to the data sheet).
Check that the filter is tight by operating the pressure
relief valve again. (If the filter is a duplex filter, please
always refer to the specific information provided in the
data sheet!)
Use only original Filtration Group
replacement parts.
