Troubleshooting Guide

PROBLEMS
1. No possible setting of arc
voltage and / or wire feed speed
2. Rough wire feeding or wire not
feeding but drive rolls turning
3. Variable or hunting arc
4. Poor arc striking with sticking
or "blast-offs", weld porosity, narrow
and ropy looking bead, or
electrode stubbing into plate
while welding
5. Tip seizes in diffuser
6. Welding machine does not
deliver any current

POSSIBLE CAUSES

1. Arc voltage control, Arc voltage
selector and/or wire feed speed control
are in the wrong position
1.
Gun cable kinked and/or twisted
2.
Wire jammed in gun and cable
3.
Incorrect position of drive roll with
grooves.
4.
Drive roll loose
5.
Gun cable dirty
6.
Worn drive roll
7.
Electrode rusty
8.
Worn nozzle or cable liner
9.
Partialy flashed or melted contact
tip
10. Incorrect idle roll pressure
11. Improper liner, tip or guide tube
1.
Wrong size, worn and/or melted
contact tip
2.
Worn work cable or poor work
connections
3.
Loose electrode
1.
Improper gas shielding
1.
Tip overheating due to prolonged
or excessive high current and / or
duty cycle welding
1.
Power is missing
2.
Faulty power source contactor

WHAT TO DO
1. Put the control(s) in the right
position.
1.
Inpect gun cable and replace if
necessary
2.
Remove wire from gun and cable-
Feed in new wire. Note any
obstruction in gun and cable.
Replace gun and cable if necessary.
3.
See wire feeder operating manual.
4.
Remove, clean, install and tighten.
5.
Clean cable or replace liner
6.
Replace
7.

8.
Replace
9.
Replace contact tip
10. See wire feeder operating manual.
11. See wire feeder operating manual.
1.
Replace tip - remove any spatter
and replace if necessary
2.
Inspect - repair or replace as
necessary
3.
Be sure electrode lead is tight, gun
cable tight in wire feeder contact
block, gun nozzle and gun tip tight.
1.
Clean gas nozzle. Make certain that
gas diffuser is not restricted. Make
certain that gas cylinder is not
empty or turned off. Make certain
that gas solenoïd valve is operating
and gas flow rate is proper. Remove
gun liner and check rubbber seal for
any sign of deterioration or damage.
Be sure set screw in brass
connector in place and tightened
against the liner bushing.
1.
Do not exceed current and duty
cycle rating of gun. A light
application of high temperature
antiseize lubricant ( such as
graphite grease)améliore la
situation.
1.
Check the connection to the line
and remove any obstruction
2.
Replace it
