If required, place a label on the container for
transportation to the laboratory.
To adjust the stroke of the handle, turn the adjustment
stroke knob. With the stroke adjustment knob seated at
horizontal position, the stroke provides a maximum
vacuum of -450 mmHg. With the stroke adjustment knob
turned 90° counter-clockwise to vertical position, the
pump will generate a maximum vacuum of -225 mmHg.
The collection container is equipped with an overfill
protection mechanism. Once the collection container is
full, the overfill protection mechanism will be engaged.
When the mechanism is engaged, it is not possible to
squeeze the handle for further suctioning (extremely high
resistance will be felt when trying to do so). When this
happens, empty the container or use a backup container
for further suctioning. The overfill protection mechanism
will ensure that the fluid will not enter the pump housing
once the container is full.
Caution: If the pump handle becomes difficult to operate,
a blockage may have occurred. Do not continue suction-
ing until the source of the blockage has been determined
(remove the blockage from either the catheter, the
adapter or the cap).
One grey adapter tip for finger-tip connector and one
adapter for funnel shape connector is included with the
Res-Cue Pump. To use catheter with finger-tip connector
and funnel shape connector for suction, attach larger end
of the adapter tip to the canister cap and catheter to the
smaller end of the adapter tip. Standard suction catheter

tubing with finger-tip connector and funnel shape connec-
tor is not included. Follow your local
protocol for all suctioning practice.
Note: If the pump is turned upside down, the overfill pro-
tection mechanism will be engaged making it impossible
to suction. If sudden resistance is felt during suctioning
and at the same time container is not full then the overfill
protection mechanism might have become engaged. Turn
the pump handle such a way that the pump handle and
bottom of the container are facing toward the ground
(and not toward you). Dismount and remount the contain-
er. This should disengage the
overfill protection mechanism. If it is still difficult to oper-
ate the pump handle and resistance is felt, check for the
blockage as described earlier.
6. Cleaning - disinfecting - sterilising
Disinfect the pump and handle (by scrubbing with
warm soapy water, mild detergent, bleach solution etc.)
before placing into storage.
7. Test for correct function
Check the handle's condition and the pump function
before returning it to service. Mount a container, occlude
the suction port by thumb or palm and squeeze the pump
handle to check for the vacuum.
