• For vehicles with a first registration from before 1 January 1987, the rear fog lights and rever-
se lights of the rear carrying system do not need to be operational. The use of a 7-pole trailer
socket is possible.
• For vehicles with a first registration from after 1 January 1987 to 31 December 1990, the rever-
se lights on the rear carrying system must be operational. The use of a 7-pole socket is possib-
le if a continuous positive is waived (terminal 54g).
• For vehicles with a first registration from after 1 January 1991, all standard rear lighting devices
of the vehicle must also be repeated on the rear carrying system. The rear fog lights and rever-
se lights of the rear carrying system must be operational. Through the use of a relay or a socket
with disabling contact it must be ensured that the rear fog lights switch off independently on
the vehicle with use of the rear carrying system, or that they can be switched on again after
removing the plug (13-pole socket).
• For vehicle designs which were give type approval not until after 1 October 1998, load carriers
or the load being carried may not cover the third brake light of the vehicle. The third brake light
must be visible on the right and left – starting from the vehicle longitudinal axle – at a horizontal
angle of 10°, from above – starting from the upper edge of the light – at a vertical angle of 10°,
and from below – starting from the lower edge of the light – at a vertical angle of 5°.
• Even if only one of these visibility conditions cannot be upheld, the third brake light must also
be repeated on the rear carrying system.
Safety notices for driving
• Drive speed: Always observe the maximum speed allowed by traffic ordinances. Apart from
this, we recommend for the transport of bicycles with this coupling bike carrier a maximum
speed of 120 km/h!
• The attachment of the rear carrying system must be checked regularly by the vehicle owner.
• Attention: according to § 22 of the StVZO, the driver is responsible for securing the load.
• Always be aware that the valid laws in the country of operation must be observed.
• Fold-down device: Warning – Always ensure that the fold-down mechanism is firmly closed.
• Through the use of the rear carrying system, the rear slope angle is limited in comparison to the
series, such that the vehicle can touch down earlier in cases of unevenness during driving. The
altered driving and braking behaviour caused by the rear carrying system and the load should
be taken into consideration through reduced speed.
• Side wind: Reduce your driving speed in case of side wind!
• Braking, acceleration, driving around curves: Avoid jerky braking and acceleration! Avoid
jerky steering movements!
• Backward driving and parking: In driving and parking backwards, pay attention to the entire
length of the vehicle with the installed coupling bike carrier!
• Impairment of visibility toward the rear: In case of impairment of visibility toward the rear,
suitable rear-view mirrors (e.g. right exterior mirror or trailer rear mirror) must be installed on the
vehicle.
• Check the coupling bike carrier: Check the attachment bands and belts before assembly;
damaged bands and belts must be exchanged immediately. After initial installation, check all
connections on the coupling bike carrier (screws, belts, nuts) as well as the attachment of the
load after a short driving distance. Then, you should check these connections again at regular
intervals (more often in case of poor road conditions)! After each use, check whether the pro-
duct is undamaged. Before the start of driving, ensure the functionality of the lighting unit.
• For driving in Italy and Spain: The coupling bike carrier projects over the dimensions given in
the vehicle registration document. Install the warning plate required in the respective country!
