Transport
The wheelchair can be placed in a car.
The best way to do this is by reducing
the wheelchair or using steel ramps.
Handicare recommends wheelchair
users to travel in a regular car seat
whenever possible. A wheelchair
cannot offer the level of safety that is
offered by standard car seats, no
Operating instructions
matter how well the wheelchair is fixed
to the vehicle concerned. As it is not
possible for every wheelchair user to
make a transfer, the wheelchair should
be secured as described below.
•
The Ibis X-Series has been crash
tested and has met all the pass
requirements of ISO 7176-19.
•
Your safety during transport
largely depends on the person
securing the wheelchair. It is
your responsibility to ensure the
wheelchair is secured as safely
as possible.
•
Always ask for confirmation of
the transporter that the vehicle
is suitably designed, insured
and equipped to transport a
person in a wheelchair.
•
Parts of the wheelchair that can
be easily detached should be
removed and stored elsewhere
during transportation.
•
The wheelchair should always
be transported in a forward
facing direction.
•
Handicare recommends an
Unwin tie-down system that is
tested and approved according
to ISO10542.
