Setting system function
This section describes the basic procedure for setting up
the BML. For details on setting possibilities see Section 6.
The tape is manufactured as a band with
multiple same code segments and can be
ordered as a random piece. This means it can
happen that the zero point is located in the
middle of the measuring range. If the sensor
head then crosses the zero point, an overrun
will result.
Recommendation: Set the zero point.

Check system function
Check all functions as follows after assembling the
magnetic encoder system or exchanging the sensor head
or magnetic tape:
1. Switch on the sensor head supply voltage.
2. Check that the count direction of all interfaces
corresponds with the direction of travel, and correct
the controller parameterization if necessary.
3. Move the sensor head along the entire measuring
length and check whether the measurement value
within the range is plausible. No error is allowed to
occur in the data set or to be indicated by the LED.
Troubleshooting steps are described in Section 11.1 on
page 26.

Operating notes
–
Check and record the function of the magnetic
encoder system and all associated components on a
regular basis.
Path
–
If there are malfunctions in the magnetic encoder
system, take it out of service and secure it against
unauthorized operation (see also Troubleshooting on
page 26).
