Corded Buttonhole

Corded buttonholes are found on coats and other
garments that require extra strong buttonholes. The

cording reinforces and accentuates the buttonhole.

With the buttonhole foot raised, hook the filler cord
A
on the spur at the back of the buttonhole foot. Bring
the ends forward under the buttonhole foot.
Position the cord into the forks on the front of the
foot to hold the ends tight. (

Sew a corded buttonhole using the same directions
as for a buttonhole.
• Set the stitch width to match the thickness of the

cording.
Lower the needle into the garment where the button-
hole will start and lower the presser foot.
Press the foot control and slowly sew the buttonhole.
Each side of the buttonhole and the bartacks will be
sewn over the cord. Remove the fabric from the ma-
chine and cut only the sewing threads.
Pull the left end of the cord to tighten it. Thread the
end through a darning needle; draw to the wrong
side of the fabric and cut.
Cut open buttonhole.
