Question / Error / Problem
Print quality not satisfactory,
small bubbles visible on the
print surface.
Why is a different filament re-
quired for a study model than
for a working model?
Can resin be applied to the
model?
For example, for orthodontic
reworking or in order to fabri-
cate an orthodontic appliance
on the printed model?
Can the multi-use filament
be milled? Would it have a
different surface structure
afterwards?
If the splints are very close to
each other, is working with an
intermediate film permitted?
If an intermediate film is used,
is there a risk that the splints
will not be seated tightly
enough?
Worry that in the case of
slender or narrow tooth tips,
the splint will not reach this
point, in other words that it
does not reach low enough.
Does the model require insu-
lation before thermoforming
with a film?
Small holes in the film, heat-
ing.
Cause
• Filament has absorbed humidity
from the ambient air. Slight stringing
may be visible. Humidity should not
exceed 60 % rH.

Troubleshooting / Solution
• Keep your filament dry. In case it has become hu-
mid, use a commercially available filament dryer box
with the following properties:
- active heating,
- adjustable temperature,
- filament outlet ideally on the top.
• The only difference between the SIMPLEX study
model and the SIMPLEX working model is the color.
Otherwise, the filament is the same.
• Why do we offer customers two colors? In orthodon-
tics, study or diagnostic models are primarily white.
These are used for planning and for communication
with the patient.
The appliances are fabricated by technicians on the
working model. Working on a white model is tiring
for the eyes.
Green has a calming effect and feels natural. The
green shade has proven its worth for fatigue-free vi-
sion and work. That's why we chose a green shade
for working models.
• Yes, this is possible. Ensure that before use, a resin/
resin separator is used. If a separator is not used,
the applied resin bonds with the filament model and
can no longer be lifted after curing.
• As it contains plaster, SIMPLEX multi-use can be
easily worked with rotary instruments and a scalpel.
• Yes, this is possible.
• Observe the manufacturer recommendations of the
splint material / system used.
• Observe the manufacturer recommendations of the
splint material / system used.
• That depends on what film is used for thermoform-
ing. Recommendations for model insulation are
provided in the instructions for use of the respective
film. Observe the manufacturer recommendations.
• Possible cause: Small particles of dust were present
on the film that burned during heating. Ensure that
the film is free from dust.
