1.2
Storing the documents
These instructions as well as all applicable documents are an integral part of the product. They must
be issued to everyone who works with the unit and must always be available and on hand for operating
and maintenance personnel.

Safety instructions
– Assembly and installation of the device may only be performed by experienced, trained specialists.
– The CMC III PU 19" Edition housing must not be opened.
– The CMC III PU 19" Edition must not come into contact with water, aggressive or inflammable gases
or vapours.
– The CMC III PU 19" Edition may only be operated within the specified environmental conditions (see
section 8.1).
– The CMC III PU 19" Edition is connected permanently to the mains power and does not have a main
switch for the all-pole mains power decoupling.

Product description
3.1
Functional description
The CMC III PU 19" Edition is the central product of the Rittal enclosure monitoring and control system
for the electronic monitoring of enclosures and server racks. It provides two Ethernet LAN interfaces in
conjunction with a web site for user communication. The CAN bus interface allows a wide range of sen-
sors, actuators and systems for access monitoring to be connected. All sensors initialise themselves
automatically after connection to the CAN bus system.
A 230 V connection is available for the power supply. The system can also be supplied with Power over
Ethernet (max. 25.5 W). In this case, the connected CAN bus sensors are supplied with power via the
bus cables.
3.2
Intended use
The CMC III PU 19" Edition is used exclusively as an enclosure monitoring system and for the adminis-
tration of various enclosure parameters. Envisaged deployment locations are enclosures and enclosure
systems, as well as racks for the installation of server and network technology in secure and technology
rooms. Please consult Rittal prior to implementing other applications. These products must be com-
bined and operated only with system accessories envisaged by Rittal.
