2.7.2
ADJUSTING THE FLUID SECTION LATCHES
The latches may need to be adjusted in order to
i
properly secure a new fluid section. Follow these
steps if you have purchased and installed a new
fluid section to your pump.
1.
Make sure the locking screws and latches are secured onto the
fluid section per section 2.7.1.
2.
With the latches closed, locate the phillips-head on top of the
locking pins.
3.
Using a phillips-head torque screwdriver, tighten each screw to
8-10 in-lbs.
4.
After screws are torqued, open the latches and tighten jam nuts
(Figure 8, item 1) to maintain set torque.
5.
Close the the latches again, ensuring they are tight.
If you have over-tightened the screws, the latches
i
and screws will be too tight and will not be able to
be opened.
If the screws are not tight enough, the fluid section
will slide back and forth inside the pump housing.
2.7.3
SERVICING THE VALVES
The design of the fluid section allows access to the
i
foot valve and seat as well as the outlet valve and
seat without completely disassembling the fluid
section.
It is possible that the valves may not seat properly
because of debris stuck in the foot valve seat or
outlet valve seat. Use the following instructions to
clean the valves and reverse or replace the seats.
1.
Remove the pusher stem clip (Fig. 9, item 1) and slide the pusher
stem housing (2) from the foot valve housing (3).
2.
Using a wrench, loosen and remove the foot valve housing (3)
from the block.

Clean out any debris in the foot valve housing (3) and examine
the valve housing and seat (5). If the seat is damaged, reverse or
replace the seat.
Using a 5/16" hex wrench, loosen and remove the outlet valve
retainer (Fig. 10, item 10) from the piston (15).
Always service the outlet valve with the piston
i
attached to the pump. This will prevent the piston
from rotating during disassembly of the outlet
valve.
Clean out any debris and examine the outlet valve retainer (10)
and seat (11). If the seat is damaged, reverse or replace the seat.
Remove, clean, and inspect the outlet cage (14), crush washer
(13), and outlet valve ball (12). Replace if they are worn or
damaged.
The outlet cage always must be used with the
i
crush washer. They are included together in the
repacking kit as assembly P/N 704-642.
Reassemble the valves by reversing the steps above..
During reassembly of the outlet valve, apply one
i
drop of Loctite (included in the repacking kit) to
the threads of the outlet valve retainer (10) before
threading it into the piston rod (15) . Then, torque
the retainer to 144 in./lbs. (12 ft./lbs.).
Use the T-slot on the slider assembly to hold the
i
piston in position while securing the outlet valve
retainer.
Never use a wrench on the piston itself. This could
cause damage to the piston and cause leakage.
