Index mode
Index mode is used to rapidly locate moisture with
comparative measurements, without a direct out-
put of material moisture in %. The output value (0
through 1000) is an indexed value that increases
as material moisture becomes greater. Measure-
ments made in index mode are independent of
material type and particularly useful with materi-
als for which no characteristics are stored. When
comparative measurements reveal strongly devia-
ting values, the course of moisture in the material
can be localized quickly.

CM mode
The calcium carbide method is a standardised me-
thod of producing accurate and conclusive results
in material moisture measurement applications,
however, its measuring procedure is work-intensive
and time consuming. Many different factors are
decisive in obtaining optimum results, especially
the sampling method and size, the fragmentation
quality and time, the number and selection of
sampling points.
To minimise the work involved and the number
of samples, based on the resistance measuring
principle, the measuring instrument makes it
possible to output the material moisture in % cm
in CM mode. With these general measurements it
is possible to estimate the results of a subsequent
CM measurement and optimise the corresponding
sample settings.
The calcium carbide method is still required for verification and documentation in all expert and
!
specialist reports. „CM mode" does not replace the conventional calcium carbide method but
rather it is designed to support it.
