Line Isolation Monitor
Section 6—Maintenance and Troubleshooting
1.
Turn off all branch circuit breakers. This ensures that the LIM is monitoring only the
leakage current of the LIM, the isolation transformer, and the panel wiring.
After all branch circuit breakers are turned off and if the green LED is illuminated,
something on one of the branch circuits is causing the excessive leakage current.
2.
Energize the circuit breakers one at a time to find the circuit that is causing the LIM
to alarm. When the problem branch circuit and its attached equipment are ident-
fied, correct the problem.
If turning off all the branch circuits does not cause the LIM to revert back to a safe
condition, then power feeding the LIM is not isolated and is actually grounded
power. Make sure the LIM is on isolated power.
Total Hazard Current "Er" During Start Up Sequence
Immediately after applying power to the LIM, it performs its start up sequence, the Hazard
LED is flashing, the internal audible alarm is on, the red bars of the analog bar graph are
flashing, the Total Hazard Current displays Er, and the LIM is not functioning properly.
Possible Cause: Upon initial power-up the LIM performs a number of internal checks.
During this check, it found that an internal component has reached its serviceable
tolerance limit.
Action: Press the Alarm Silence button. The Total Hazard Current displays an error
code. Refer to table 4 for an explanation of the code.
Problems During Operation
Errors that may occur during operation are described in the following paragraphs.
Alarm Sounds During Normal Operation
The LIM has been in operation for some time, but suddenly the internal audible alarm
sounds every 30 seconds while the LIM is functioning properly.
Possible Cause: An internal component is close to reaching its serviceable tolerance
limit, but is still serviceable. However, the unit may move beyond its serviceable
tolerance limit at any time.
Action: Press the Alarm Silence button. The Total Hazard Current displays an error
code. Refer to table 4 for an explanation of the code.
LIM Alarm Sounds when Isolated Power System Is Connected to Standby Generator
Test
During testing of the standby generator the Hazard LED on the LIM is flashing, the internal
audible alarm is on, the red bars of the analog bar graph are flashing, the Total Hazard
Current displays Er, and pressing the silence switch causes the Total Hazard Current to
read 9.7.
Possible Cause: The standby generator governor is out of adjustment.
Action: Re-adjust governor on generator. The LIM is designed to operate at 50 or 60 Hz
± 1.5 Hz. The generator must operate within these parameters from no-load to full-load.
