Camshaft Locking Tool 2588-4
• Dependent upon engine type, the Camshaft
Locking Tool 2588-4 is used either as an
assembly of the two pins and the bridge, or
as the two pins only (without the bridge).

➪ B = Engine Codes in Application Charts,
except for ARC / ARR / AVY / BAD
• Check that the camshaft sprocket setting
holes are in correct position to accept the
Camshaft Locking Tool 2588-4, or the two
pins (without the bridge).

Ensure that Camshaft Locking Tool 2588-4
is installed correctly – insert the pins fully
into the locking holes of the camshaft
sprockets and then slide the bridge piece
down to rest on the timing belt sprockets.
When correctly installed the two balls on the
ends of the pins should be parallel.

Locking Pin 2588-10 and Retainer
2588-11
• Locking Pin 2588-10 and Retainer 2588-11
are used to compress and to lock the auto-
matic belt tensioner on VW 1.8 and 1.8
Turbo petrol engines.
• Locking Pin 2588-10 is inserted to lock the
plunger in the retracted position.
• Retainer 2588-11 is fitted and applies
pressure to the plunger to release
tension off the timing belt.
