27. On/off switch with emergency button. Use this button to start/stop the machine. The switch can be
locked with a padlock in the "off"-position. The switch also functions as emergency button to switch off the
machine in emergency situations.
29. Spindle speed. Can be changed by placing the belt in any of the steps (grooves) in the pulleys. Refer to
the spindle speed label inside belt guard.
9. Troubleshooting
Pull the plug!
For your own safety, turn switch "off" and always remove plug from power source outlet before
troubleshooting.
Trouble
Noisy operation
Drill bit burns
Drill bit leads off
hole not round
Wood splinters on underside
Workpiece torn loose from hand
Drill bit binds in workpiece
Excessive drill bit runout or wobble
Quill returns too slow or too fast
Chuck will not stay attached to
spindle, it falls off when trying to
install it
10. Maintenance
Pull the plug!
For your own safety, turn switch "off" and always remove plug from power source outlet before
maintaining or lubricating your drill press.
Probable cause
1. Incorrect belt tension
2. Dry spindle
3. Loose spindle pulley
4. Loose motor pulley
1. Incorrect speed
2. Chips not coming out of hole
3. Dull drill bit
4. Feeding too slow
5. No cooling
1. Hard grain in wood or lengths of
cutting lips and/or angles not
equal
2. Bent drill bit
1. No "scrap wood" under
workpiece
1. Not supported or clamped
properly
1. Not supported or clamped
properly
2. Feed pressure too high
3. Improper V-belt tension
1. Bent drill bit
2. Worn spindle bearings
3. Drill bit not properly installed in
chuck
4. Chuck not properly installed
1. Tension of spring incorrect
1. Dirty, grease or oil on the
tapered inside surface of chuck
or on the spindles tapered
surface

Remedy
1. Adjust tension
2. Lubricate spindle
3. Check tightness of retaining nut
on pulley and tighten if
necessary.
4. Tighten set screws in pulleys
1. Change speed
2. Retract drill bit frequently to clear
chips
3. Resharpen drill bit
4. Increase feed speed, allow drill
bit to cut
5. Use cooling equipment
1. Resharpen drill bit correctly
2. Replace drill bit
1. Use "scrap wood"
1. Support workpiece or clamp it
1. Support workpiece against
column or clamp it
2. Apply less feed pressure
3. Adjust V-belt tension
1. Use a straight drill bit
2. Replace bearings
3. Install drill bit properly
4. Install chuck properly
1. Adjust spring tension
1. Using a household detergent,
clean the tapered surface of the
chuck and spindle to remove all
dirt, grease and oil
