17. Sanding

• While sanding, always make sure to
hold the machine firmly with both
hands and ensure that you are standing
firmly on the ground. It is more secure
to control the machine with two hands.
• Apply only little pressure when sanding.
Applying too much pressure can result
in uneven sanding.
• Choose the appropriate grain, depend-
ing on the state of the surface and the
material. Do not sand down for too long
on the same spot.
Use finer sanding paper for the second
round of sanding, until you have reached the
desired level of smoothness.
Note: The abrasive sleeve should NOT be in
contact with the workpiece until it has
reached its operating speed.
Once the tool has reached its operating
speed, hold onto the tool with both hands
and carefully bring the abrasive sleeve into
contact with the workpiece.
Note: When the abrasive sleeve contacts
the workpiece, the tool will tend to be pulled
forward away from you. Make sure you have
a firm grip on the tool with both hands.
Do not force the machine. The weight of the
machine usually provides adequate pres-
sure. Let the machine and the sandpaper do
the work. Applying added pressure will slow
the motor, increase the wear on the abrasive
sleeve and motor damage may occur if
excessive downward pressure is applied.
When sanding wood, always move the
machine forward and backward with the
grain. Sanding across the grain will not
leave a smooth surface.
Always keep the tool "moving" when the
sanding sleeve is in contact with the work-
piece. This is particularly important when
sanding wood or other soft materials.
Failure to keep the tool "moving" will result
in gouges in the workpiece.
Do not allow sanding dust to accumulate in
the tool. Stop and clean out all loose
sanding dust at regular intervals to prevent
unnecessary build-up that will cause the
tool to be inefficient and to guard against
overheating.

18. Maintenance and cleaning

• To reduce the risk of injury, always dis-
connect the main power plug before
cleaning the device.
• Clean your device with a damp cloth.
• For stubborn dirt, you can moisten the
cloth with a mild detergent or soft soap.
Other cleaning products often contain
chemicals that can damage the plastic
parts of the device.
• Make sure that air vents always remain
clean and open.
• Make sure that no liquids get into the
machine and never immerse the device
in liquid.
• Repairs, inspections of the machine
interior, adjustments, and the replace-
ment of carbon brushes should only be
performed by a qualified electrician.
Only identical replacement parts should
be used! For more information, please
contact customer service.
• Disconnect the main power plug prior to
performing any maintenance work!
• Always keep the ventilation openings
open and clean. After each use, remove
the dirt and dust with a paintbrush or
with compressed air from the ventila-
tion openings.
• Never clean the sander with water or
other liquids.
