Verwendungszweck
Das Ausatemsystem Silentflow 2 ist ein Zubehörprodukt und

wird in Kombination mit Nasalmasken bei der Behandlung
der Schlafapnoe und bei der nicht-invasiven Beatmung von
Patienten mit ventilatorischer Insuffizienz eingesetzt.
Silentflow 2 ermöglicht es Ihnen, während der Therapie
geräuscharm auszuatmen. Durch Silentflow2 wird das Risiko
der Rückatmung vermieden.

Funktionsbeschreibung

Silentflow 2 verbindet den Atemschlauch des Therapiegerätes
mit der Nasalmaske.
Die eingeatmete Luft strömt durch das Masken- Schlauch-
System. Die ausgeatmete Luft entweicht über einen Spalt
zwischen Mittelteil und Anschlußhülse.

Sicherheitsbestimmungen
Zu Ihrer eigenen Sicherheit sowie der Sicherheit Ihrer Patienten
und nach den Anforderungen des MPG (Medizinpro-
duktgesetz) beachten Sie bitte folgendes:
• Bitte lesen und beachten Sie diese Gebrauchsanweisung. Sie
ist Bestandteil des Ausatemsystems und muß jederzeit
verfügbar sein.
• Verwenden Sie nur Nasalmasken, die keine integrierte
Ausatemöffnung besitzen.
• Verwenden Sie keine Masken, die den gesamten
Nase-Mund-Bereich bedecken.
• Silentflow2 muß direkt mit der Maske verbunden werden.
• Silentflow2 ist ausgelegt auf einen Therapiedruckbereich
zwischen 4 und 40 hPa. Bei geringerem oder höherem
Therapiedruck darf Silentflow2 nicht verwendet werden.
• Beachten Sie, daß Patienten mit eingeschränkter
Spontanatmung ständig überwacht werden müssen und
daß am Beatmungsgerät ein entsprechender Unterdruck-/
Leckagealarm aktiviert sein muß.
• Patienten mit obstruktiven und restriktiven Lungenkrank-
heiten sollten während der Verwendung von Silentflow
individuell z. B. hinsichtlich CO
werden.
• Beim Einsatz von Fremdartikeln kann es zu Funktions-
ausfällen und Nicht-Biokompatibilität kommen. Bitte
beachten Sie, dass in diesen Fällen jeglicher Anspruch
auf Garantie und Haftung erlischt, wenn weder das in
der Gebrauchsanweisung empfohlene Zubehör noch
Original-Ersatzteile verwendet werden.
• Achten Sie auf eine feste und luftdichte Verbindung
zwischen Silentflow 2 und Maske sowie zwischen
Silentflow2 und Atemschlauch. Die Verbindungen
dürfen sich durch den Therapiedruck nicht lösen.
• Verschließen Sie keine Öffnungen von Silentflow 2.
• Setzen Sie die Nasalmaske nur dann längere Zeit auf
Ihr Gesicht, wenn das Therapiegerät eingeschaltet ist.
Der Luftstrom des Therapiegerätes dient unter anderem
dazu, die ausgeatmete Luft aus Maske und Schlauch
zu entfernen. Ist das Therapiegerät nicht eingeschaltet,
besteht die Gefahr der Rückatmung, wenn Sie durch
die Nase atmen.
• Verwenden Sie keine elektrisch leitfähigen Atemschläuche.
• Reinigen Sie das Ausatemsystem wie unter Punkt 4
„Hygienische Aufbereitung" beschrieben. Ungeeig-
nete Reinigungsverfahren, ungeeignete Reinigungsmit-
tel und zu geringe Reinigungshäufigkeit können zu
einer Infektion oder bakteriellen Kontamination führen
und die Funktion des Ausatemsystems beeinträchtigen.

Bedienung
Inbetriebnahme
Verbinden Sie Silentflow 2 mit dem Atemschlauch. Achten

Auf der Anschlußhülse kennzeichnen 6 Pfeile den Bereich,
in dem die ausgeatmete Luft entweicht. Dazwischen befindet
sich ein Segment, in dem der Ausatemspalt verschlossen ist.
Stecken Sie das Ausatemsystem so in den Anschlußkonus der
Maske, daß dieses Segment zu Ihrem Körper ausgerichtet
ist. Sie vermeiden dadurch einen unangenehmen Luftstrom
gegen Ihren Körper.
Nach dem Gebrauch
Trennen Sie Silentflow 2 von der Maske und dem Atem-
schlauch. Reinigen Sie Silentflow 2 wie unter Punkt 4 „Hygie-
nische Aufbereitung" beschrieben.
Zerlegen des Ausatemsystems
Entriegeln Sie Mittelteil und Anschlußhülse durch leichten
Druck auf die Haken und ziehen Sie die Teile auseinander.
Montieren des Ausatemsystems
Stecken Sie die Bauteile zusammen. Achten Sie auf das
Einrasten der Verriegelung (Klick). Ist Silentflow 2 korrekt
montiert, lassen sich Mittelteil und Anschlußhülse leicht
gegeneinander verdrehen.
Kombination mit anderen Geräten
Dieses Ausatemsystem kann mit allen Geräten zur Durchführung
der unter „Verwendungszweck" beschriebenen Therapien
kombiniert werden, wenn folgende Punkte erfüllt sind:
• Beachten Sie bei der Kombination von Silentflow 2 mit
anderen Geräten, daß der Therapiedruck und die Druck-
konstanz in der Nasalmaske der Verordnung Ihres Arztes
entspricht. Fragen Sie Ihren Arzt oder Fachhändler, ob mit
der gewünschten Gerätekombination der richtige
Therapiedruck in der Maske erreicht wird. Lassen Sie die
Einstellungen Ihres Therapiegerätes von Ihrem Arzt oder
Fachhändler prüfen.
• Berücksichtigen Sie die Vorgaben in den Gebrauchs-
anweisungen der Geräte, die Sie mit Silentflow 2
kombinieren wollen.
• Verwenden Sie eine Nasalmaske mit einem Anschlusskonus
nach DIN EN ISO 5356-1, z.B. SOMNOmask
• Verwenden Sie einen Atemschlauch aus Elastomer mit
einem Anschlußdurchmesser von 20 bis 21 mm.
Verwendung von Kalt- und Warmluftbefeuchtern
Silentflow 2 kann mit einem Kalt- oder Warmluftbefeuchter ver-
wendet werden. Achten Sie bitte darauf, daß Silentflow 2 vor
Therapiebeginn trocken ist. Wählen Sie den An-feuchtungsgrad
nie so hoch, daß sich Wasser in Atemschlauch oder Ausatem-
system niederschlägt. Lesen Sie dazu die Ge-brauchsanweisun-
gen Ihres Anfeuchters und Therapiegerätes.

Purpose of Use
The exhalation system Silentflow 2 is an accessory that is
used with nasal masks in the treatment of sleep apnea and
in non-invasive ventilation of patients with respiratory
insufficiency.
Silentflow 2 makes it possible for you to exhale quietly during
therapy. Silentflow2 prevents the exhaled air from being
inhaled again.
Functional description
Silentflow 2 connects the breathing hose of the therapy
device to the nasal mask.
The inhaled air flows through the mask-hose system. The
exhaled air escapes through an opening between the middle
section and connecting sleeve.

Safety Instructions
For your own protection and that of your patient and accor-
ding to the requirements of the European Union Guidelines
93/42/EEC, please observe the following:
• Please read these instructions for use carefully. They are a
part of the device and have to be available at all times.
• Use only nasal masks that do not have their own
exhalation openings.
• Do not use masks that cover the entire nose and mouth.
• Silentflow 2 has to be directly connected to the mask.
• Silentflow2 is set up with a therapy pressure range
between 4 and 40 hPa. Silentflow2 cannot be used
with lower or higher therapy pressures.
• Please note that patients with limited spontaneous
breathing must be monitored at all times and that an
alarm for negative pressure and/or leaks has to be
activated on the ventilation device.
• Patients with obstructive and restrictive pulmonary
illnesses should be individually examined, for example
with regard to CO
Silentflow.

• Malfunctions and a lack of biocompatibility may result if

third-party articles are used. Please bear in mind that in
these cases any warranty entitlement and liability shall
lapse where the accessories recommended in the
instructions for use or original spare parts are not utilised.
• Make sure that the connections between Silentflow 2
and the mask and between Silentflow 2 and the
breathing hose are firm and air-tight. The connections
must not be allowed to loosen during therapy.
• Do not close any openings on Silentflow 2.
• Place the nasal mask on your face for any length of
time only when the therapy device has been switched
on. One of the purposes of the therapy device air flow
is to remove the exhaled air from the mask and hose.
When the therapy device is not switched on, there is a
risk of rebreathing the exhaled air if your breathe
through your nose.
• Do not use any electrically conductive breathing hoses.
• Clean the exhalation system as described in Point 4
"Hygienic preparation". Unsuitable cleaning methods,
unsuitable detergents and insufficient cleaning frequency
can lead to infection or bacterial contamination and
impair the function of the exhalation system.
3 Operation
Putting into operation
Connect Silentflow 2 to the breathing hose. Ensure that the
air outlet is directed toward the hose.
Insert the Silentflow 2 into the tapered connection of the
mask. You can make your therapy more comfortable by
observing the following points:
Six arrows indicate the area on the connecting hose where
exhaled air escapes. There is a segment in between, in which
the exhalation opening is closed. Insert the exhalation system
into the tapered connection of the mask so that this segment
is directed toward your body. This will prevent an uncomfor-
table draft onto your body.
After use
Disconnect Silentflow 2 from the mask and breathing hose.
Clean Silentflow 2 as described in Point 4 "Hygienic prepa-
ration".
Separating the exhalation system
Unlock the middle section and connection hose by applying
slight pressure to the hook and by pulling the pieces apart.
Assembling the exhalation system
Fit the parts together. Ensure that the lock engages (clicks
into place). When Silentflow 2 is correctly assembled, the
middle section and hose can be rotated in opposite direc-
tions from one another.
Combination with other devices
This exhalation system can be used with all devices for treat-
ment described under "Purpose of Use" if the following
conditions are fulfilled:
• When Silentflow 2 is combined with other devices, ensure
that the therapy pressure and the pressure constancy in
the nasal mask are as prescribed by your physician. Ask
your physician or dealer whether the correct therapy
pressure will be achieved in the mask using the desired
equipment combination. Have your physician or dealer
check the settings of your therapy device.
• Follow the directions in the user's manuals of the devices
you want to combine with Silentflow 2.
• Use a nasal mask with a tapered connection in
accordance with EN ISO 5356-1, e.g., SOMNOmask
• Use a breathing hose made of elastomer with a
connection diameter of 20 to 21 mm.

Use of heated and unheated humidifiers
Silentflow 2 can e used with a heated or an unheated
humidifier. Ensure that Silentflow 2 is dry before starting
treatment. Never select a degree of humidification which is
so high that water forms in the breathing hose or exhalation
system. Refer to the user's manuals for your humidifier and
therapy device.

Application

Dispositions en matière de sécurité
Pour votre propre sécurité, ainsi que pour celle de vos pati-
ents, et conformément aux exigences de la Directive de la CE
93/42/CEE, veuillez observer les mesures suivantes :
• Veuillez lire et suivre les instructions présentées dans ce
mode d'emploi. Ce dernier fait partie intégrante de la
valve d'expiration et doit être disponible à tout moment.
• N'utilisez pas de masques nasaux possédant un orifice
intégré de fuite d'expiration.
• N'utilisez pas de masques qui recouvrent complètement le
nez et la bouche.
• Silentflow 2 doit être raccordée directement au masque.
• Silentflow2 est prévue pour une pression thérapeutique
comprise entre 4 et 40 hPa. Silentflow2 ne doit pas être
utilisée en cas de pression thérapeutique plus basse ou
plus élevée.
• Veillez à ce que les patients souffrant d'une respiration
spontanée restreinte soient continuellement sous
surveillance et que l'alarme de dépression et de fuite de
l'appareil de ventilation soit activée.

• Nous vous recommandons d'examiner individuellement
les patients atteints de maladies pulmonaires obstructives
et restrictives durant l'utilisation du Silentflow p. e. pour
ce qui est de la réinhalation de CO
• L'usage d'articles étrangers à l'appareil peut entraîner
des dysfonctionnements et l'incompatibilité biologique.
Prière de noter que dans ces cas, tous les droits relatifs
à la garantie et à la responsabilité seront annulés si les
accessoires conseillés dans le mode d'emploi ou les
pièces de rechange d'origine ne sont pas utilisés.
• Veillez à ce que le raccordement soit solide et étanche à l'air
entre Silentflow 2 et le masque, ainsi qu'entre Silentflow 2
et le circuit-patient. Les raccordements ne doivent pas se
détacher quand la pression thérapeutique est activée.
• N'obturez aucun des orifices de Silentflow 2.
• Appliquez le masque nasal sur votre visage pendant une
période prolongée uniquement lorsque l'appareil
thérapeutique est en marche. Le flux aérien de l'appareil
thérapeutique est notamment destiné à éliminer l'air
expiré du masque et du circuit-patient. Si l'appareil
thérapeutique n'est pas en marche, vous risquez, en
respirant par le nez, de réinhaler l'air expiré.
• N'utilisez pas de circuit-patient conducteur d'électricité.
• Nettoyez la valve d'expiration comme indiqué au paragraphe
4 « Préparation hygiénique ». D'autres méthodes de
nettoyage ou l'utilisation de produits de nettoyage inappropriés
et une fréquence de nettoyage insuffisante risquent
d'entraîner des infections ou des contaminations
bactériennes et d'altérer le bon fonctionnement de la valve
d'expiration.

Mode d'emploi
Installation
Connectez Silentflow 2 avec le circuit-patient. Veillez à ce
que la sortie d'air se trouve du côté du circuit-patient.
Enfoncez Silentflow 2 dans le cône de raccordement du masque.
L'installation sera plus facile si vous observez le point suivant :
Six flèches apposées sur la douille raccord indiquent le côté
par lequel l'air expiré est évacué. Au milieu, il y a un segment
dans lequel la fente d'expiration est fermée. Enfoncez la valve
d'expiration dans le cône de raccordement du masque de
manière à ce que ce segment soit dirigé vers votre corps. Vous
éviterez ainsi qu'un flux aérien désagréable soit dirigé vers vous.
Après l'utilisation
Séparez Silentflow 2 du masque et du circuit-patient. Nettoy-
ez Silentflow2 conformément aux instructions du paragraphe
4 « Préparation hygiénique ».
Démontage de la valve d'expiration
Débloquez la partie centrale et la douille raccord en exer-
çant une légère pression sur le crochet et séparez les pièces
les unes des autres.
Montage de la valve d'expiration
Assemblez les pièces les unes avec les autres. Veillez à ce que
le verrouillage s'enclenche bien (clic audible). Lorsque Silentflow2
est correctement montée, il est possible de tourner sans effort la
partie centrale et la douille de raccord en sens inverse.
Raccordement avec d'autres appareils
La valve d'expiration peut être connecté à tous les ap-
pareils destinés au traitement des thérapies décrites dans le
paragraphe « Application », si les conditions suivantes sont
requises :
• En raccordant Silentflow 2 à d'autres appareils, vérifiez que la
pression thérapeutique et la régularité de pression dans le
masque nasal correspondent bien à la prescription de
votre médecin. Demandez à votre médecin ou à votre
revendeur spécialisé si le raccordement souhaité à
d'autres appareils permet d'obtenir dans le masque la
pression thérapeutique prescrite. Demandez à votre
médecin ou à votre revendeur spécialisé de vérifier les
réglages de votre appareil thérapeutique.
• Tenez compte des spécifications indiquées dans le mode
d'emploi de l'appareil auquel vous voulez raccorder
Silentflow 2.

• Utilisez un masque nasal possédant un cône de
raccordement conforme à la norme EN ISO 5356-1,
par ex. SOMNOmask
• Utilisez un circuit-patient en élastomère ayant un diamètre
de raccordement de 20 à 21 mm.
Utilisation d'humidificateurs à air froid et chaud
Silentflow 2 peut être utilisée avec un humidificateur à air
froid ou chaud. Veillez à ce que Silentflow 2 soit totalement
sèche avant le début du traitement. Ne choisissez jamais un
degré d'humidifica-tion si élevé qu'une condensation d'eau
se forme dans le circuit-patient ou dans la valve d'expiration.
Lisez à cet effet le mode d'emploi de votre humidificateur et
de votre appareil thérapeutique.
