PHOTO 44. Glue the limber boards, nos. 46 and 47, into place centred on the bulwarks.
PHOTO 45. Glue the parts, nos. 48, 49, 50 and 51 in place. Before attaching the part, no. 49, immerse it in water so that it will
recover its elasticity.
PHOTO 46. Having glued all of the limber boards into place, sand down using fine grain sandpaper.
PHOTO 47. Paint the interior and exterior sides of the limber boards using a marker pen.
PHOTO 48. Make a hole in the hull, on both sides of the stem. See Plan 1.
PHOTO 49. Adjust the size of the hinge, using cutting pliers. See Plan 1.
PHOTO 50. Make up the rudder blade using the parts shown in the image.
PHOTO 51. Attach the blade to the hull, using the hinges. Varnish the whole of the hull using colourless, satin-finish, pore-filler
varnish. (Carefully read the manufacturer's instructions for use).
PHOTO 52. After this assembly stage, varnish all of the wooden parts that have to be incorporated to the ship. Paint the edges
of the part, no. 55, black and glue it to the deck, centring its hole with the foremast. Glue the parts, no. 56, and make the
Holes shown in the image.
PHOTO 53. Make up the cat davits, nos. 57 and 58, and the pinracks, no. 59. Having checked Plan 1, glue the parts in place.
Drill a 0.75 mm. ø hole in which to attach each of the eyebolts, B.
PHOTO 54. Make up the boat davits, no. 60. Glue the parts, nos. 55, 60, 61 and 62, into place. See Plan 1.
PHOTO 55. Make up the pinracks, no. 63, and the parts, nos. 64 and 65, and glue them in place on the bulwarks. See Plan 1.
PHOTO 56. Glue the pinracks, no 63, into place with the parts, nos. 64 and 65, to the bulwarks. Attach the eyebolts, B, to the
deck. See Plan 1.
PHOTO 57. Make up the parts, no. 66, and glue them into place on the bulwarks. Join the parts, D and E, to the deadeyes, B,
using the slings, C.
PHOTO 58. Paint the ladder, no. 67, and the door, no. 68, and glue them to the bulkhead, as shown in the image.
PHOTO 59. Glue the parts, no. 70, onto the boat, no. 69. Use quick-drying glue.
PHOTO 60. Paint the boat brown and black. Attach an eyebolt, using quick-drying glue, to the parts, no. 70.
PHOTO 61. Make up the tackle, no. 71, and attach it to the boat and the davits.
PHOTO 62. Join the clump blocks, H, to the chain plates, no. 72. Fix the chain plates to the hull using the pins, A.
PHOTO 63. Make up and fit the chain plates until completing the channel.
PHOTO 64. Carry out the same operations as for photos 62 and 63 until you have completed the hull channels.
SUPERSTRUCTURE
PHOTO 65. Fit the strips of grating, no. 73, together until you have made up a piece of 32 units. For this process use quick-
drying glue. Cut the grating to the shape shown in the image.
PHOTO 66. Cut the grating in such a way that you obtain a piece that is 25 x 25 mm.
PHOTO 67. Make up the parts, nos. 74 and 75, and use them to frame the grating.
Having reached this stage in the construction of your model, follow the established numerical order and make up the parts
represented in this section. Some of these parts have to be painted, to do so use acrylic water-based paints. Once the parts
have been made up they must be glued into position as shown in the image and with the distribution indicated in the plans.
PHOTO 68. Paint the part, no. 96, and glue it to the anchor, no. 97. Fit one of the rings K to the end of the anchor and attach the
cable, no. 98, to the ring. Reinforce this join using one of the lashings, no. 99. Tie it off with one of the slings, C, and one of the
pulleys, E, to the ring.
PHOTO 69. Insert the anchor cable into the hole in the hull, as shown in the image. Make up the tackle, no. 100, and attach it to
the davit.
PHOTO 70. Using pincers, pull the end of the anchor cable through the hole in the deck as shown in the image. The cable will
have to be wound round the windlass and glued to the chain pipe, no. 56.
PHOTO 71. Using a round file, file down the holes set aside for the masts.
PHOTO 72. Using fine grain sandpaper, sand down the parts, nos. 101, 102 and 103. Assemble the parts that make up the
pedestal, using white glue as an adhesive.
PHOTO 73. Dye the assembled pedestal with water based wood dyes.
MASTS AND RIGGING
In order to make up the masts the first step is to cut the rods to size, as indicate din the parts list, or by taking measurements
directly from plan 2, which is printed in 1/1 scale.
All of the masts and yards have a certain conical shape to them.
PHOTO A. In order to achieve this conical shape for the masts, sand down the rod (using a sander), sanding down more as you
get closer to the end where you want to decrease the diameter. Roll the rod so that the wear is the same all round it.
PHOTO B. Repeat the above operation until the diameter is a indicated in the plan.
PHOTO C. To ensure the conical shape of the yards carry out the same operations a above, only this time at both ends of the
rod.
In order to make up the masks for this model correctly you must take the following into account:
-
Plan 2
-
The close up photos of the masts
The measurements and description of the materials given in the parts list
-
-
The "PI" Parts Identification sheets
The masts must be varnished and some of the parts that make them up painted. See close up photos of the masts.
Once the masts have been assembled and varnished attach their tackle (slings, blocks, eyebolts, clump blocks, etc.) and attach
them to the ship. The masts must be inserted until they come up against the slots of in the false keel.
RUNNING GEAR
In order to make up the running gear for this ship follow the alphabetic order printed together with the instructions, indicating the
order in which the ropes, clump blocks, blocks, etc. should be fitted, highlighted in red.
Use the printed sails plan along with the instructions, to identify them.
To simulate the aging of the sails, boil them in tea.
