2.2. Mounting the pipe cleaning spiral in the spiral drum (10)
When a new pipe cleaning spiral is mounted, this must be bent approx. 45°
about 50 mm before the rear end of the spiral and then pushed through the
open chuck (5) / thrust gear (12) into the spiral drum so that the pipe cleaning
spiral winds up in clockwise direction looking though the end opening of the
spiral drum (10). Push in the pipe cleaning spiral until the club head (6) protrudes
approx. 200 mm from the chuck (5) / thrust gear (12).
3. Operation
3.1. Operation ROLLER'S Mini-Ortem S
CAUTION
Only operate the electric pipe cleaning machine with both hands, always hold
the side handle with thrust control (1) and switch handle (2) tightly. Note reac-
tion torque of the drive unit on the spiral drum (10) when switching on and off!
Start the electric pipe cleaning machine preferably at low speed and increase
slowly as required.
Pull out the pipe cleaning spiral Ø 8 mm, or Ø 10 mm, approx. 150 mm. For
pipe cleaning spiral Ø 8 mm. turn the adjusting wheel (11) to the stop, for the
pipe cleaning spiral Ø 10 mm until it hits meets a resistance and then turn it
further approximately one revolution. Set the direction of rotation switch (3) to
the arrow in the direction of the spiral drum (10). With the adjusting wheel on
the safety inching switch (4) the speed can be limited from the lowest stage A
to the highest stage F. Press the safety inching switch (4) lightly so that the
spiral drum (10) turns, then increase the speed slowly as required. Turn the
side handle with thrust control (Fig. 1 (1)) to the left to move the pipe cleaning
spiral into the pipe. If the pipe cleaning spiral hits an obstruction, the speed
may have to be reduced or the thrust direction reversed. After clearing the
blockage, turn the side handle with thrust control (Fig.1 (1)) to the right to
withdraw the pipe cleaning spiral from the pipe. The electric pipe cleaning
machine must be switched off about 200 mm before the club head (6) reaches
the thrust gear (12). After cleaning work, the adjusting wheel (11) must be
released for transport and the pipe cleaning spiral must be pushed back into
the spiral drum (10) up to just before the stop of the club head (6) on the thrust
gear (12).
CAUTION
If the distance between the end of the pipe/drain and the thrust gear (12) is too
great, the pipe cleaning spiral can loop (danger of injury)!
NOTICE
Only push the pipe cleaning spiral into the pipe to an extent that at least two
windings remain in the spiral drum (10) when cleaning. If the pipe cleaning
spiral is pushed further, the motor can no longer retract the spiral. The pipe
cleaning spiral then has to be pushed back into the spiral drum (10) about 2
windings by hand. Then the automatic return starts working again.
The club head (6) formed on the pipe cleaning spiral may never be allowed to
get into the thrust gear (12) because otherwise the pipe cleaning spiral will be
damaged..
3.2. Operation ROLLER'S Mini-Ortem
Pull the pipe cleaning spiral approx. 300 mm out of the spiral drum (10), tighten
the chuck (5) by hand and insert the spiral into the pipe to be cleaned. Hold
the handle (7) tight and turn the spiral drum (10) clockwise by turning the crank
(8) with your other hand. Only insert the pipe cleaning spiral into the pipe to

5. Faults
ROLLER'S Mini-Ortem S
5.1. Fault: Power tool does not start.
Cause:
● Worn carbon brushes.
● Mains lead defective.
● Electric pipe cleaning machine defective.
5.2. Fault: No feed of the pipe cleaning spiral.
Cause:
● Adjusting wheel (11) was not engaged.
● Pipe cleaning spiral stuck in the pipe or in a pipe blockage.
● Pipe cleaning spiral is not mounted in the spiral drum (10) in clockwise
direction.
● Electric pipe cleaning machine defective.

an extent that the chuck (5) can still be operated by hand. Open the chuck (5)
and pull the pipe cleaning spiral about 300 mm back out of the spiral drum
(10). Repeat the process until you can feel a resistance or the blockage is
cleared. Pull back the pipe cleaning spiral by hand and push it back into the
spiral drum.
3.3. Operation of ROLLER'S Mini-Ortem with a suitable electric drill/electric
screwdriver
If an electric drill/electric screwdriver is used to drive the ROLLER'S Mini-Ortem,
make sure that this is equipped with a continuous electronic speed control
(0 – 550 rpm). Remove the crank (8). Connect the electric drill/screwdriver with
drill chuck to the hexagonal driver (9).
CAUTION
Do not use an electric drill/screwdriver with quick stop! If the drive unit is
shut down immediately, the vibration torque of the still moving spiral drum (10)
can knock over the unit.
Pull the pipe cleaning spiral about 300 mm out of the spiral drum (10), tighten
the chuck (5) by hand. Always start the electric drill screwdriver at low speed
in right right hand rotation and increase the speed as required. Only insert the
pipe cleaning spiral into the pipe to an extent that the chuck (5) can still be
operated by hand. Switch off the electric drill/screwdriver. Open the chuck (5)
and pull the pipe cleaning spiral about 300 mm back out of the spiral drum (10).
Repeat the process until you can feel a resistance or the blockage is cleared.
Keep a maximum distance of 200 mm between the end of the pipe/drain and
the chuck (5) otherwise the pipe cleaning spiral can loop. Always pull back the
pipe cleaning spiral by hand and push it back into the spiral drum. Only use
anticlockwise rotation of the electric drill/screwdriver if the pipe cleaning spiral
is jammed in the pipe. Switch the electric drill/screwdriver carefully between
clockwise and anticlockwise rotation to remedy this.
4. Maintenance
4.1. Maintenance
WARNING
Pull out the mains plug before maintenance work!
Clean the electric pipe cleaning machine and the pipe cleaning spiral regularly
especially when they have not been in use for a long time. Clean plastic parts
(e.g. housing) only with machine cleaner (Art. No. 140119) or a mild soap and
a damp cloth. Do not use household cleaners. These often contain chemicals
which can damage the plastic parts. Never use petrol, turpentine, thinner or
similar products for cleaning.
Make sure that liquids never get onto or inside the electric pipe cleaning machine.
Never immerse the electric pipe cleaning machine in liquid.
4.2. Inspection/Repair
ROLLER'S Mini-Ortem S
WARNING
Pull out the mains plug before maintenance and repair work! This work
may only be performed by qualifi ed personnel.
The gear runs in a life-long grease fi lling and therefore needs no lubrication.
The drive machine motor has carbon brushes. These are subject to wear and
must therefore by checked and changed by qualifi ed specialists or an author-
ised ROLLER'S customer service workshop from time to time.
Remedy:
● Have the carbon brushes changed by qualifi ed personnel or an authorised
ROLLER customer service workshop.
● Have the connecting cable replaced by qualifi ed technicians or an authorised
ROLLER contract customer service workshop.
● Have the pipe cleaning machine inspected/repaired by an authorised ROLLER
customer service workshop.
Remedy:
● Engage adjusting wheel (11), see 3.1. Operation ROLLER'S Mini-Ortem.
● Set the direction of rotation switch (3) to the arrow in the direction of the switch
handle (2). Turn the side handle with thrust control (Fig.1 (1)) to the left. Press
the safety inching switch (4) lightly so that the spiral drum (10) turns, then
increase the speed slowly as required.
● Remove pipe cleaning spiral and re-mount, see 2.2.
● Have the pipe cleaning machine inspected/repaired by an authorised ROLLER
customer service workshop.
