2.3 Operation of AZ-1 and AZ-2 mounts
The telescope has an altazimuth mount with the designation AZ-1 or AZ-2. This allows you to acquire any
celestial object by movement in the vertical and horizontal axes.
How to proceed:
1.
Loosen the screw for the azimuth adjustment (horizontal movement). You will find this thumbscrew
located just under the fork mount.
2.
If you now place your hand on the tube, you will be able to move the telescope to the right or left.
3.
Now, keeping hold of the tube, also carefully loosen the locking screw on the elevation rod - which you will
find on the side of the mount. The telescope can now move freely in the vertical axis too.
4.
Move the telescope into the proximity of the desired celestial object, at the same time homing in on it with
the finder scope (which has been previously aligned). Now lock the elevation rod screw once more.
5.
You will find an elevation fine adjustment control on the elevation rod - a flat screw, with which you can
move the tube up or down slightly. An object which has been roughly positioned can thereby be
accurately placed into the centre of the field of view of the eyepiece.
