Problem
Surface burner does
not ignite.
Pans rock on
surface burner
grates.
Oven light does not
work.
Oven does not heat.
Oven door will not
open.
Oven temperature is
not accurate.
Oven cycles on and
off.
The oven smokes
the first few times it
is turned on.
Odor or smoke while
self-cleaning the
oven.
Range top is warm
during use.
Food cooks slowly or
will not maintain
constant boil.
Burner should ignite within 4 seconds. If burner does not ignite within 4 seconds turn
control knob to OFF position and follow directions in "Placing Grates and Burner Caps".
If burner cap is properly placed. See "Operating Surface Burner during a Power Failure"
to check gas supply to burner. If burner ignites, verify range is plugged in, circuit
breaker is not tripped, or fuse is not blown.
If burner still does not ignite in 4 seconds, contact an authorized servicer.
See "Utensils" section to check pan for flat bottom.
Surface burner grates are designed with 3 tines higher than the others so pans rest on
the grates at 3 points. Like a tripod, this 3-point design keeps flat pans from rocking. If
the pan is not centered on grate or is empty, it may rock slightly. The handle weight of
an empty pan can cause the pan to rock because the weight is on the outside edge.
When pans have food in them, they should not rock unless the pan is positioned off
center.
Check for loose bulb. Check for burned out bulb; replace with 40-watt appliance bulb.
Confirm range is plugged in. If both oven and surface burners ignite, check circuit
breaker. Check control for proper setting.
Wait for oven to cool. Door latch will release automatically after oven cools. Do not
force lock lever.
Store purchased oven thermometers do not measure oven temperature accurately. An
accurate digital thermometer is necessary to calibrate oven.
Check for blocked heat vents.
Aluminum foil alters oven temperature.
Change oven temperature through oven control.
This condition is normal when baking or roasting. To maintain a temperature for baking,
oven cycles on and off. The temperature may vary up to 25°F higher or lower than the
oven temperature set on the control.
Minor smoking is normal first few times oven is used.
There may be some smoke and odor during the first few cleaning cycles. If there is
excessive smoke or odor, too much soil remains in the bottom of the oven. If the oven
smokes excessively, turn off the oven, wait for the oven to cool and wipe away the
excess soil. Reset the clean cycle.
Normal condition.
Improper cookware causes poor cooking results. Pans should be made of heavy
material and be same diameter as surface element. See " Cooking Utensils" section.
