d) Inserting/replacing the battery
Operation of the multimeter requires a 9 V block battery (e.g. 1604A). You need to insert a new, charged battery prior
to initial operation or when the battery change symbol
Proceed as follows to insert/replace the battery:
- Disconnect the multimeter and test leads from all circuits. Disconnect all test leads from the multimeter. Switch the
DMM off.
- Remove the battery/fuse compartment cover (see "Opening the battery/fuse compartment").
- R eplace flat batteries with new ones of the same type. Insert the new batteries into the battery compartment with
the correct polarity. Look for the polarity signs in the battery compartment.
- Carefully replace the battery/fuse compartment cover.
Never use the multimeter when the battery/fuse compartment is open. DANGER OF DEATH!
Do not leave flat batteries in the device. Even leak-proof batteries may corrode and destroy the
device or release chemicals that are detrimental to your health.
Do not leave batteries unattended. They might be swallowed by children or pets. Seek immediate
medical attention if a battery is swallowed.
If you do not plan to use the multimeter for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent it
from leaking.
Leaking or damaged batteries may cause acid burns if they come into contact with your skin.
Always use protective gloves when handling leaking or damaged batteries.
Ensure that the batteries are not short-circuited. Do not throw batteries into fire!
Batteries may not be recharged or dismantled. There is a risk of explosion.
