Laboratory Mill CD 2
The addition of water is generally done in a most imprecise way. In
particular, the water is unequally distributed over the grain surface.
As test milling is an entire process, we felt that it was necessary to
complete the. Milling equipment with a fitting designed for:
- improving and standardizing the conditions for preparing the
wheat for grinding.
- economy: both in terms of time and actual operation which till now
has been performed manually.
With this in mind, a rotary mixer MR 2 L CHOPIN with a water-
adding device and a homogenizing screw have been created (refer
to the brochure of the machine).
3.2 The actual milling
■ Weigh out 500 g of grain in the flask which was used during the
preparatory stage. The yields can thus be easily calculated multip-
lying by 0.2. They correspond to yields obtained in industrial milling
with respect to wheat ground at B1.
■ The 500 g of grain are poured through the spout into the feed-
hopper at right. The spout which is removable has on the bottom
edge a magnet for catching metallic particle which were not remo-
ved during the cleaning process.
Before each test, check the spout. If metallic particles are
present, remove the spout by unscrewing the star-knob and
clean off with a brush.
■ Break
❏ Start the grinding by turning the right-hand electric starting switch
(clockwise) which simultaneously controls the distributor micro-
motor and the grinder and sieve motor.
Make sure that the two electrical connectors are live: starting the
distributor without simultaneously starting the grinder will cause
jamming.
If this happens,
- Start the machine in the opposite direction.
- Clear away the products with a brush through the two sight-holes.
- Repeat this operation several times until the pulley turns freely.
- Replace the cover and start up again.
❏ Grinding time varies with the size of the grains (or the weight of
1,000 grains). This takes about 3 to 3.5 minutes.
After grinding 500 g wait approximately 1.5 min. so that the sieving
