GTL 900 PLUS
Fuel specifications: Unleaded gasoline or 90 octane
of higher.
Fuel tank capacity: 3.6 L
WARNING:
Always use clean container for storing fuel and do
not use fuel stored for more than a month.
Oil specifications: For general use (5°C - 38°C) the
recommended oil is SAE 10W30 (Fig. 14).
Engine oil capacity: 0.6 L
Gearbox oil capacity: 0.75 L
Air filter oil capacity: 0.1 L
To fill the machine with fuel:
1. Remove the fuel tank cap (Fig. 12.1).
2. Add fuel to the upper level of the fuel tank.
Leave a minimum 5 mm of space between the
top of the fuel and the inside edge of the tank
to allow for expansion. Half the length (Fig.
12.3) of the fuel tank cap filter (Fig. 12.2) can
also work as the upper fuel level sign, where
available.
3. Reposition the fuel tank cap and tighten
appropriately.
To fill the engine with oil:
1. Remove the oil filler cap (Fig. 13.3) from the en-
gine oil filler neck (Fig. 13.2). The bottom part
of it is the oil level indicator.
2. Gradually add enough oil to bring the oil level
between the upper (Fig. 13.4) and lower (Fig.
13.5) limit on the oil level indicator. Measuring
should be done with the dipstick positioned,
but not screwed, in the filler neck.
3. Reposition the oil filler cap and tighten appro-
priately.
To fill the gearbox with oil:
1. Remove the oil filler cap from the gearbox (Fig.
1.10) oil filler neck.
2. Gradually add enough oil to bring the oil level
to the upper level. The oil upper level is at the
bottom of the oil filler cap neck.
3. Reposition the oil filler cap and tighten appro-
priately.
To fill the air filter with oil (applicable only to oil
bath type air filter):
1. Remove the air filter cover (Fig. 15.1) and air fil-
ter element (Fig. 15.2) from the air filter (Fig.
1.11).
2. Gradually add enough oil to bring the oil level
to the upper limit on the oil level indicator.
3. Reposition the air filter element.
4. Reposition the air filter cover and tighten ap-
propriately.
WARNING:
Wipe off any spilled fuel and oil before starting the
engine.
STARTING THE UNIT
Before starting the machine:
1. Make sure both the machine and you are on
stable ground.
2. Check that all the fasteners are secured in po-
sition.
3. Prepare accessories and make sure they are
correctly mounted.
4. Check that the air filter is clean and that the air
intake and exhaust are not clogged by any for-
eign materials.
5. Fill with the required quantity of oil and fuel.
6. Make sure that the clutch (Fig. 1.1) is disen-
gaged and that the gear shift lever (Fig. 1.13)
is in neutral position, to prevent uncontrolled
movement of the tiller.
To start the machine:
1. Move the fuel valve lever (Fig. 7.2) to the "ON"
position.
2. Move the choke lever (Fig. 7.1) to the "ON" po-
sition.
NOTE:
This step applies only to cold starting of the en-
gine. When the engine is already warm or the en-
vironment temperature is high, the choke lever
should be at "OFF" position at all times.
3. Move the ON / OFF switch (Fig. 1.14) to the
"ON" position (Fig. 11).
4. Move the throttle lever (Fig. 1.15) to the "L"
(low speed) position (Fig. 8).
5. Grip firmly the handle of the machine with your
left hand and the starter grip of the engine
with your right hand (Fig. 9). Pull the starter
grip until you feel resistance to engage the
engine and then pull firmly to start the engine.
WARNING:
To avoid breaking the starter rope, do not pull the
whole length of it or let it slide along the edge of
the cable guide hole. Release the starter gradual-
ly, to avoid letting it fly back uncontrollably.
6. As the engine warms up, gradually move the
choke lever to the "OFF" position, if the engine
was cold started.
NOTE:
For maximum performance and reliability, allow
the engine to warm up before operating, running
it for two to three minutes at idle speed
OPERATING THE UNIT
Clutch lever
Pull the clutch lever towards the handle (Fig. 10)
and keep it in place to propel the machine accord-
ing to the chosen gear. Release the clutch lever to
stop the machine from moving.
WARNING:
The clutch lever must be released before operating
the gear shift lever.
Throttle lever
The desired engine speed can be set by moving
the engine speed lever between the "H" and "L",
for high and low speed respectively (Fig. 8).
WARNING:
The engine speed must be reduced to minimum be-
fore operating the clutch.
Gear shift lever
Move the gear shift lever to the desired position
to choose the way your tiller will be propelled:
"R" : reverse gear
f
"0" : neutral gear
f
"1" : forward gear number one
f
"2" : forward gear number two
