The Promass measuring system was tested for approval by the following named entity:
• EXAM BBG Prüf- und Zertifizier GmbH
(DTM Deutsche Montan Technologie GmbH;
Fachstelle für Sicherheit elektrischer Betriebsmittel, Bergbau-Versuchsstrecke)
1.
The flowmeter must be integrated into the potential equalisation system. Potential must be equalized
along the intrinsically safe sensor circuits.
2.
Devices connected to terminals Nos. 20 to 27 of the Promass 83 MODBUS RS485 transmitter must be
≤
rated for U
260 V and I
m
3.
The specified temperature class in conjunction with the ambient temperature and the fluid temperature
must be in compliance with the tables on Page 18 ff.
4.
The following rules apply for connecting the electronics housing of the EEx d rated version:
Use only specially approved cables and cable entries (EEx d IIC), suitable for operating temperatures up to
80 °C. If conduit entries are used, the seals must be positioned immediately adjacent to the housing.
5.
The following rules apply for connecting the electronics housing of the EEx e rated version:
Use only specially approved cables and cable entries (EEx e), suitable for operating temperatures up to
80 °C and having an IP 67 protection rating.
6.
Use of the devices is restricted to media against which the process-wetted materials are adequately
resistant.
7.
It is not permissible to connect the service adapter in explosive atmospheres.
8.
Seal cable entries tight.
9.
Zone 0: In the zone 0 potentially explosive vapour/air mixtures may arise under atmospheric conditions
only. If no potentially explosive mixtures are present, or if additional protective measures have been taken,
e.g. EN 1127-1, the transmitters may be operated under other than atmospheric conditions in accordance
to the manufacturer's specifications.
10. An additional assessment is required to ascertain the suitability of the device to explosive gas-air and dust-
air mixtures occurring simultaneously.
• If the category "ia" intrinsically safe circuits of the flowmeters are connected to certified intrinsically safe
category "ib" circuits with explosion group EEx ib IIC resp. EEx ib IIB ratings, the ignition protection rating
changes to EEx ib IIC resp. EEx ib IIB, as applicable. Intrinsically safe "ib" circuits are suitable for areas which
require Category 2 equipment.
• Zone 21:
The surface temperature of the measuring device must not exceed 2/3 of the ignition temperature of a dust
cloud. The maximum surface temperature must maintain a safety distance of 75K for the glow temperature
of a dust layer of 5 mm.
Example: a configuration of temperature class T4 (135 °C) is thus suitable for dust with an ignition
temperature of 202.5 °C (1.5 x 135 °C) and a glow temperature of 210 °C (135 °C + 75 °C).

Warning!
• Installation, connection to the electricity supply, commissioning and maintenance of the devices must be
carried out by qualified specialists trained to work on Ex-rated devices.
• Compliance with national regulations relating to the installation of devices in potentially explosive
atmospheres is mandatory, if such regulations exist.
• Open the device only when it is de-energized (and after a delay of at least 10 minutes following shutdown
of the power supply).
• The housing of the Ex-rated transmitter can be turned in 90° steps. Whereas the non-Ex version has a
bayonet adapter, however, the Ex version has a thread. Recesses for centering the worm screw are provided
to prevent inadvertent movement of the transmitter housing. It is permissible to turn the transmitter
housing through a maximum of 180° during operation (in either direction), without compromising
explosion protection.
After turning the housing the worm screw must be fastened again.
• The screw cap has to be removed before the local display can be turned, and this must be done with the
device de-energized (and after a delay of at least 10 minutes following shutdown of the power supply).
