OPERATION: How to make subtractive weighings; how to read devations from a reference weight
A container filled with a substance can be tared out. This makes is possible to weigh out from the container without having to calculate how much substance has been
removed.
Deviations from a reference weight can be read with the correct sign in front, provided the reference weight has been tared out beforehand. In any case, the balance
display has to be switched on before a load (e.g., the reference weight) is placed on the pan.
The deviation is displayed with the fine range readability so far as the reference weight does not exceed the fine range.
Weighing out
– Place container with the substance on the
weighing pan.
– Tare; the balance display zero.
– Remove some of the substance; the weight of
the removed substance appears in the display
with a negative sign in front.
Setting a reference weight
– Place reference weight on pan (weight or
master).
– Tare: the balance displays zero.
– Remove reference weight; the balance now
displays the reference weight with a negative
sign in front, e.g. – 300.00 g
Now, deviations from this reference weight can be
read directly.
Determinig a deviation from a reference weight
– Place object to be compared against reference
on pan.
If the object is heavier than the reference, the deviation
appears in the display with a positive sign in front
because:
- 300.00 g + 300.62 g = + 0.62 g
If the object is lighter than the reference, the deviation
appears with a negative sign in front, because:
- 300.00 g + 299.42 g = - 0.58 g.
