Safety Information
For qualified staff only
This manual is only intended for use by properly trained and qualified electri-
cal technicians who are fully acquainted with automation technology safety
standards. All work with the hardware described, including system design,
installation, setup, maintenance, service and testing, may only be performed
by trained electrical technicians with approved qualifications who are fully
acquainted with the applicable automation technology safety standards and
regulations.
Proper use of equipment
The frequency inverters of the FR-F/A800 series are only intended for the spe-
cific applications explicitly described in this manual and the manuals listed
below. Please take care to observe all the installation and operating parame-
ters specified in the manuals. Only accessories and peripherals specifically
approved by MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC may be used. Any other use or application
of the products is deemed to be improper.
Relevant safety regulations
All safety and accident prevention regulations relevant to your specific appli-
cation must be observed in the system design, installation, setup, mainte-
nance, servicing and testing of these products.
In this manual special warnings that are important for the proper and safe use
of the products are clearly identified as follows:
P
DANGER:
Personnel health and injury warnings.
Failure to observe the precautions described here can result
in serious health and injury hazards.
E
CAUTION:
Equipment and property damage warnings.
Failure to observe the precautions described here can result
in serious damage to the equipment or other property.

equipment described in this manual, please contact your relevant sales office
or department.
Installation Notes
Please read the following installation notes carefully to use the DC choke to its
option.
P
DANGER
● Never install the DC chokes when the voltage of the frequency inverter
is switched on.
● Before starting wiring, wait for at least 10 minutes after the power
supply has been switched off. The capacitor is charged with high volt-
age for some time after power off and it is dangerous.
E
CAUTION
● The DC chokes described in this reference sheet are designed exclu-
sively for use with Mitsubishi inverter type FR-F800, and FR-A800.
● Select the choke suitable to your inverter (see table below).
● As a DC choke is supplied with the 01800 or more as standard, be sure
to connect the DC choke.
● Spatially arrange the DC chokes when assembling them in the control
cabinet in such a way that they are on the „clean side" of the inverter
(i.e. on the motor cable side), and not on the side on which the EMC fil-
ter is installed.
● The wiring distance should be within 3m.
● Only use cable with the cable cross-sections listed in the table in the
„Dimensions" section
● The inverter operates only when either a DC choke or jumper is con-
nected.
● Please check the tightening torque of all terminal screws (also those
wired from factory side).
Selection of the DC Choke
Check the inverter type. The DC choke should be used only in combination
with inverters described in the table below.

Function
DC chokes smooth the DC current and are used to reduce (harmonic) line reac-
tions on the mains side. Use the chokes to suppress interferences, to increase
the degree of efficiency or when installing the frequency inverter near a trans-
former with a transformer power of 500 kVA or more. If you do not use a choke
then the inverter may be damaged.
Construction
The FFR-HEL DC choke meets the requirements of the EN61558 standard. The
IP20 version is soaked and cast into a housing with type Stobicast® L 780 resin.
Common specifications
FFR-HEL
Maximum ambient temperature
50 °C
Thermal classes are compliant to
B
IEC60085 and IEC60216
Winding insulation material
Polyurethan, Polyamid
Wiring
Connect DC choke FFR-HEL to terminals P1 and P/+ (+ for 200-V inverters) of
the frequency inverter. In case of frequency inverters up to power class 01160,
the bridge between terminals P1 and P/+ must be removed when connecting
a DC choke.
FFR-HEL
Remove the
jumper!
E
CAUTION
For a good electrical connection it is important to tighten the factory side
wired terminal screws with the right torque, after connecting the cables
coming from P1 and P/+.
