5. Assembling the wings
As shown in Fig. 8 , insert the fuselage between the wings until the
canopy is aligned with the provided recess. Now push the wing unit
sideways onto the fuselage and fix it into position with the screws
and
.
6. Assembling the undercarriage
Insert the pre-assembled rear undercarriage
Fig. 9 , through the rudder hinge and tighten both screws
with a cross-tip screwdriver (size PH0).
The main undercarriage is inserted beneath the heads of the nylon screws
at the front and clipped into the closure at the rear. To do so, please refer
to Fig. 10 . Now tighten the screws slightly. When disassembling, loosen
the screws slightly (they do not always have to be unscrewed fully) and
release the closure at the rear. The undercarriage can now be removed.
7. Establishing the aileron linkages
The elevator linkage is shown in Fig. 12 . Unscrew the grub screw of
the pushrod connector (using the enclosed hex wrench
necessary to guide the end of the pushrod through the hole. Arrange the
elevator in a line with the tailplane fin. A ruler or set square are a great
help when doing this.
Fig. 13 shows connection of the rudder. The same applies here as with
the elevator.
Insert the aileron pushrods as shown in Fig. 14 . Initially set the lower
aileron flush with the wing. Subsequently thread the aileron connector
through the pushrod connectors and tighten the grub screw on the
lower one. The upper aileron can now be adjusted. Subsequently carry
out the same procedure on the other side until all the rudders have been
linked. Now it is time to adjust the deflection sizes. Please adjust them for
the initial flight according to our recommendations.
• Elevator +25 mm/-25 mm 30%Expo
• Rudder +30 mm/-30 mm 20%Expo
• Aileron +15 mm/-14 mm 30%Expo
(measured on the lower wing)
8. Installing the propeller and the spinner
Seeing as the motor screws are still freely accessible, make sure they
have been tightened correctly. Although this is actually part of the preflight
check, it is no longer possible once the propeller and the spinner have
been installed. The propeller is installed on the motor shaft as shown
in Fig. 15 . We recommend balancing the propeller with our propeller
balancer # 332355 prior to assembly. Tighten the propeller nut firmly. The
spinner is simply attached to the spinner driver from the front. Now check
, as shown in
the gap between the fuselage and the spinner by turning the propeller
manually. The spinner must not come into contact with the fuselage and
should run smoothly. Please disconnect the battery beforehand to ensure
your safety!
9. Adjusting the center of gravity
The center of gravity can be adjusted by moving the drive battery.
This procedure should be done carefully as it is crucial for the subsequent
flight characteristics of the model. The position of the center of gravity is
13 mm in front of the carbon fiber spar of the upper wing. Support it with
your fingertips. Now move the battery until the nose of the model points
) as far as
downward slightly as shown in Fig. 16 . Once set up like this, you can
calmly proceed to the initial flight.
10. Preflight check
However, before the initial flight, always carry out a preflight check.
• Check all the screws, including the grub screws, and retighten them,
if necessary
• Check the rods, they should never come into contact with other parts
• Undercarriage properly engaged
• Use Fig. 17 to check the symmetry of the model
• When checking the rudder, also check the directions of rotation and resets
• Caution: Do not connect the battery until the transmitter is switched on
and the operating element for the motor control is set to "Off".
• Make sure the motor is running correctly (unbalance) and check the
motor rotation direction
• Perform a range test
11. Initial flight
If your model is in perfect working order, the weather conditions are
suitable and your transmitter and drive batteries are fully charged, you
can finally get started.
Position TOMMY jr. with its nose facing the wind and accelerate slowly.
After rolling a short distance, it will take off. Once it has climbed to a safe
altitude, you can test the rudder reactions and slow flight characteristics.
During the initial flight, always remember to land in good time to avoid
any unnecessary stress caused by the motor being cut off by the voltage
protection. Gradually adjust the rudder deflections and the center of gravity
as desired during subsequent flights.
