Unpacking Your Tool
• Carefully unpack and inspect your tool. Fully familiarise yourself with all
its features and functions
• Ensure that all parts of the tool are present and in good condition. If
any parts are missing or damaged, have such parts replaced before
attempting to use this tool
Assembly
On-board storage of sharpening modules
• Module Fixing Slots (4) on the side faces of the Drive Unit (1) provide
on-board storage for sharpening modules when not in use
• Simply slide the modules into the fixing slots on the sides of the drive unit
Mounting your Multipurpose Sharpener
For added safety the Multipurpose Sharpener can be secured to a rigid work
surface, such as a work bench. This is recommended if the sharpener is to
be used in a permanent position
• Use the four Bench Fixing Holes (18) in the base of the Drive Unit (1)
as a template to mark and drill four holes in your intended mounting
surface. Secure the drive unit in position using bolts, washers and nuts
(not supplied)
• Alternatively, for a portable arrangement, fix a board to the base of
the drive unit which can be easily clamped and removed from various
mounting surfaces

Preparation
Fitting a sharpening module
• The sharpening modules provide a guide for safe, precision sharpening
of cutting tools
• Do not use the Multipurpose Sharpener without a sharpening module
in place
• There are three sharpening modules:
- Drill Bit Sharpening Module (5)
- Chisel & Plane Sharpening Module (9)
- Knife & Scissors Sharpening Module (15)
To fit a sharpening module:
1. Slide the appropriate sharpening module into the Module Fixing Slots
(4) on either side of the Grinding Wheel (3)
2. Push the module down until it is fully engaged in the fastening
mechanism in the base of the Drive Unit (1). You will hear a 'click' as
it locks into place
To remove a sharpening module:
1. Depress the Module Release Lever (14) and pull the module up, out
of the fixing slots
Operating Instructions
Important safety notes
• Grinding can generate sparks – ensure there are no flammable materials
in the vicinity when using this tool
• Do not switch on this tool without a sharpening module in place
• Do not use the Chisel & Plane Sharpening Module (9) without the Guard
(11) in place
• Do not attach a sharpening module when the tool is operating
• Before removing a sharpening module, switch off the tool and allow the
grinding wheel to come to a complete stop
• Never touch the grinding wheel whilst it is in motion
• Do not test blade sharpness with your fingertip or other part of the body
Work cycle
IMPORTANT: After 90 seconds use, rest the tool for 8.5 minutes.
• Failure to follow this guidance may result in dangerous overheating of the
motor and may damage the tool or cause injury to the operator
Switching On and Off
• To switch the sharpener on, depress the side of the On/Off Switch (2)
marked 'I'
• To switch the sharpener off, depress the side of the On/Off Switch (2)
marked 'O'
Sharpening HSS Drill Bits
• The Multipurpose Sharpener will sharpen high speed steel drill bits
3 – 10mm diameter
Preparation
1. Slide the Drill Bit Sharpening Module (5) into position on the Drive
Unit (1)
2. Remove the Drill Bit Clamp (7) from the module and open the jaw
sufficiently to insert the drill bit
3. Tighten the clamp just to the point where the drill bit is retained but its
position can still be adjusted
4. Place the drill bit clamp in the Alignment Shoe (8), being sure that the
clamp engages the rails on the alignment shoe
5. Push the drill bit forward and rotate the bit so that it lays in the 'V'
Guide with the tip in contact with the metal end stop and the cutting
edges in contact with the metal sides of the 'V' (See Fig A)
6. Tighten the clamp to secure the drill bit in this position
7. Remove the clamp, with drill bit secured in position, and place it in the
Grinding Shoe (6), ensuring that the clamp engages the rails on the
grinding shoe
8. Check that the cutting edges of the drill bit are in contact with the
grinding wheel. If not, repeat the alignment procedure
9. The drill bit is now ready for sharpening, with the cutting edges
positioned at the correct angle
