Das PIKO-Modell der Baureihe 01.5 besitzt ein fein detail-
liertes Gehäuse, das der jeweiligen Vorbildvariante in
Farbgebung, Beschriftung und technischen Details exakt
entspricht. Hervorzuheben ist die präzise Gestaltung des
Kessels, des Führerstands mit sämtlichen Armaturen sowie
das filigrane Fahrwerk mit Steuerung. Der geräuscharme
Tenderantrieb durch einen 12-Volt-Motor wirkt über ein
Schneckengetriebe auf drei Achsen, die zur Erhöhung der
Zugkraft mit Haftreifen ausgerüstet sind. Die Stromabnahme
erfolgt über zwei Radsätze der Lok sowie einen Radsatz
des Triebtenders. Lok und Tender sind mit einer sechspoli-
gen Kurzkupplungskinematik verbunden. Für Freunde des
digitalen Fahrbetriebes besitzt die Lok selbstverständlich
eine digitale Schnittstelle.
Das Wechselstrommodell ist bereits ab Werk mit einem
lastgeregelten Multiprotokoll-Dekoder (Art.-Nr. 56121)
ausgerüstet.

The PIKO model of the BR 01.5
The PIKO model locomotive in the 01.5 construction series
has a finely detailed housing which corresponds precisly
with the original version in coloring, lettering and technical
details.
Outstanding features are accurate representation of the
boiler, the cab with all fittings and the detailed modelling of
the wheels. The quiet 12 volt motor in the tender operates
via a worm gear to three axles and traction tyres are fitted
to increase the adhesion. The current pick-up is via two
wheel sets on the engine and one wheel set on the tender.
The coupling linking loco and tender also ensures reliable
electric contact.
It goes without saying that the loco has been provided with
a digital interface for the fans of digital operation.
The AC model is provided with a multifunctional
decoder with power control (PIKO art.-no. 56121)

Um die klassischen Schnellzug-Dampflokomotiven der Bau-
reihe 01 noch viele Jahre im hochwertigen Reisezugdienst
einzusetzen, beschloss die Deutsche Reichsbahn in der
DDR ein umfangreiches Rekonstruktionsprogramm. Neben
neuen Kesseln für eine spürbare Erhöhung der Leistungsfä-
higkeit sollte auch das Erscheinungsbild der Lokomotiven
grundlegend modernisiert werden. Nachdem die Versuchs-
und Entwicklungsstelle für Maschinenwirtschaft der Deut-
schen Reichsbahn in Halle die erforderlichen Berechnungen
abgeschlossen und die kompletten technischen Unterlagen
erstellt hatte, rekonstruierte das damalige Reichsbahn-Aus-
besserungswerk Meiningen in den Jahren von 1962 bis
1965 insgesamt 35 Lokomotiven der Baureihe 01.0-2 zur
Baureihe 01.5. Die Maschinen bekamen die leistungsfähig-
sten Kessel aller deutschen Schnellzug-Dampflokomotiven.
Durch die sehr hohe Lage dieser Kessel, die durchgehende
Verkleidung sämtlicher Aufbauten auf dem Kesselscheitel
und die Einbeziehung der Führerhausdächer in diese Linien-
führung erhielten die großen Lokomotiven in Verbindung mit
ihren nach vorn abgeschrägten Frontschürzen ein elegan-
tes, schnittig wirkendes Aussehen. Da man aus Erfahrung
mit den Altbaumaschinen Speichenrisse befürchtete, rüstete
das RAW Meiningen einige Lokomotiven mit kompakten
Scheibenradsätzen, den sogenannten Boxpok-Rädern, aus.
Nachdem man ab 1964 neue, verstärkte Speichenräder
verwendete, erhielten auch die Lokomotiven mit den Box-
pokrädern wieder Radsätze mit Speichen. Die ursprünglich
spitzen Rauchkammertüren wurden später gegen die ein-
heitlichen, flachen Rauchkammertüren des Reko-Kessels
getauscht. Ebenso erhielten die ab 1964 rekonstruierten
Lokomotiven der Baureihe 01.5 bereits ab Werk eine Öl-
hauptfeuerung. Lediglich die zunächst in Berlin stationierten
Maschinen behielten Rostfeuerung. An die große Zeit der
schnellen und eleganten Baureihe 01.5 erinnern bis heute
die Museumslokomotiven 01 509 der Passauer Eisenbahn-
freunde und 01 1531 des „Historischen Bahnbetriebswerks
Arnstadt" der Deutschen Bahn AG.

BR 01.5
In order to prolong the use of the classical express steam
locomotives in the 01 construction series for many more
years, the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the German Democratic
Republik decided on an extensive reconstruction
programme. In addition to the installation of new boilers to
make a noticeable improvement in performance, the apea-
rance of the engine was to be thoroughly modernised. When
the Deutsche Reichsbahn's Development Centre in Halle
had finished all the necessary calculations and provided the
complete technical specification, the RAW (Reichsbahn
Repairs and Maintenance Depot) in Meiningen rebuilt a total
of 35 locomotives in the years between 1962 and 1965
converting them from the construction series 01.0-2 to 01.5.
The engines were fitted with the most powerful boiler of all
the German express steam locomotives. The elevated
position of the boiler, the smooth lines of the housing which
enclosed all the fittings on the boiler top and included the
roof of the driver's cab together with the forward slanting
front design gave these large locomotives an elegant racy
appearance. To guard against the problems of cracked
spokes which had arisen with the older engines, the RAW
Meiningen fitted some of the locomotives with compact disc
wheel sets, the so-called Boxpok wheels. After new reinfor-
ced spoked wheels became available in 1964, the loco-
motives with Boxpok wheels were again fitted with spoked
wheels. The smoke box doors, which were originally poin-
ted, were later replaced by the standard smoke box doors
of there constructed boiler. The locomotives in the 01.5
construction series rebuilt after 1964 were also fitted with
oil main firing ex works. The only exeptions were the
engines in the 01.5 construction series initially stationed in
Berlin. The museum locomotives, 01 509 belonging to the
Passau Railway Fan Club and 01 531 at the Deutsche Bahn
AG's Historical rail Depot in Arnstadt, are reminder still today
of the great period of the fast and elegant 01.5 construction
series.
