c) Programming
The speed controller can be programmed very easily with a single button:
Switch off the speed controller.
Connect the speed controller servo plug with the receiver. Ensure correct polarity of the servo plug
(black = minus/-).
Switch on the transmitter.
Keep the programming button pressed with a pointed tool (e.g. a ballpoint pen) and switch on the speed
controller (do not let go!). The speed controller emits several signals, the LED flashes briefly and goes
out.
Then let go of the button.
The LED in the speed controller flashes slowly (short red, long break). The speed controller is now in the
programming mode "reverse power".
Press the programming button in the speed controller briefly. The LED flashes twice. You are now in the
programming mode "start power".
Press the button again briefly and the LED will flash three times. Now you can set "drag brake".
Press the button again, and the LED flashes four times. Now you can set "battery type".
Press the programming button again to return to the "Reverse Power" mode (LED flashes only once).
Briefly press the button in the switch to select a programming mode.
After selecting a mode, keep the button pressed for approx. one second again until the controller emits
a sound sequence and the LED goes out.
Release the button. Now the LED in the controller flashes green. Now you can reprogram the selected
function (e.g. "reverse power").
The number of flashes indicates the value currently set. For interpretation of these signals, observe the
following items "Reverse Power", etc. Briefly press the button in the speed controller to set the new value
for the selected function.
To end programming, press the button for approx. two seconds. You will hear a sound sequence and the
LED goes out. Then release the button.
The LED flashes shortly and then is lit green permanently (display for neutral position). The speed
controller is now ready for operation.
Programming can only be completed successfully if the transmitter is switched on and the
throttle/brake lever is in its neutral position. Otherwise, the LED flashes green.
"Reverse Power": Switch off reverse driving or set the maximum speed for reverse driving. "OFF" = reverse
driving off = flash 1x, "LO" = slow = flash 2x, "MI" = medium = flash 3x and "HI" = fast = flash 4x.
"Start Power": This function is used to select one of the four settings for "starting torque". The higher the
selected number (of flashing signals), the higher the selected torque (= "start power") ("4" = maximum).
"Drag Brake": When the throttle / brake lever at the transmitter is moved to the neutral position, the motor
brake is activated. "Off" (=flash 1x) switches off the motor brake. The brake can also be programmed with
values between 2 – 4 (number of flashes). The vehicle decelerates faster the higher the programmed value.
The function corresponds to the motor braking function in a "real" car when you take your foot off the gas
pedal.
"Battery Type": Set the battery type you are using with this function.
If the setting is incorrect then the control unit or the rechargeable battery may be damaged (e.g.
excessive discharging of a LiPo rechargeable battery).
"Auto"
= NiCd/NiMH battery (6-7 cells) or 2-cell LiPo or LiFe battery = flash 1x
"NiCd/NiMH" = NiCd- or NiMH batteries with 6-7 cells = flash 2x
"LiPo"
= 2-cell LiPo battery 7.4 V = flash 3x
"LiFe"
= 2-cell LiFe battery 6.6V = flash 4x
Undervoltage recognition:
When selecting the battery type, the respective undervoltage recognition is selected automatically.
Auto:
approx. 70% of the determined battery voltage at switching on of the speed controller
NiCd/NiMH approx. 5.4V
LiPo 7.4V:
6V
LiFe 6.6V:
4.8V
In the "Auto" programming, the undervoltage recognition corresponds to approx. 70% of the
determined battery voltage. Where the battery isn't completely charged, this may lead to
undesired, battery-damaging deep discharges in particular in case of LiPo batteries. Therefore,
only connect fully charged batteries!
If the switch-off voltage is reached, the vehicle stops and the LED in the speed controller flashes
green. Stop driving to prevent deep discharge and possible damage to the battery.
Driving direction check:
Place the model vehicle so that the drive wheels do not touch the ground or any objects (e.g. by
a suitable mounting stand). Do not touch the drive mechanism and do not block it! Risk of injury!
Use the following function check to check the control signals from the transmitter's throttle lever (full throttle
forwards / backwards and neutral position). The gas trimming position should be in neutral position at this
moment in the best case. For full throttle forwards or backwards, standardised values are determined.
Turn the transmitter on and the speed controller off.
Connect the speed controller to the battery and switch on the controller. You will hear a short signal and
the LED will flash for approx. two seconds. Once the speed controller has reached the neutral position
(calibrated), the speed controller emits a sound sequence and the LED in the speed controller lights
up green. If no second sound sequence is heard and the LED at the switch flashes green, the neutral
position of the throttle at the transmitter (e.g. trim settings) is too far eccentric Check neutral position on
the transmitter.
Carefully apply full throttle forwards at the throttle lever in the steering direction for forwards driving you
are used to. Then quickly put the throttle lever in reverse. The speed controller is programmed correctly
if the motor stops at once (brake). If this is not the case, operate the reserve throttle switch at the
transmitter and check the speed controller again.
Switch off the speed controller.
Disconnect the rechargeable battery from the speed controller.
If you set the throttle lever at the transmitter to full throttle forwards in the direction you are
used to, the LED needs to flash quickly in throttle positions that do not correspond to full throttle
forwards. For full throttle forwards, the LED must be permanently lit, and the wheels must turn in
the direction for forwards driving.
If this is not the case, either swap the two motor connection cables (for wheel rotating directions)
and/or press the throttle reverse switch at the transmitter (fast flashing of the LED for forwards =
desired forwards direction on the transmitter).
For reverse driving, the LED flashes slowly. If the speed controller is programmed for full speed
reverse, the LED is lit permanently red in case of full throttle reverse. In other programming
positions for reverse driving, the LED flashes slowly even in case of full throttle reverse.
d) Commissioning Vehicle
Place the model vehicle so that the drive wheels do not touch the ground or any objects (e.g. by
a suitable mounting stand). Do not touch the drive mechanism and do not block it! Risk of injury!
Switch on your transmitter. (Check battery state!) Put the trim controls in centre position. Put the throttle
in neutral position and let go of it.
The switch on the speed controller must be set to the "OFF" position.
Insert the battery pack into the vehicle and connect it to the speed controller.
First switch on the control unit (switch to the "ON" position). The LED at the speed controller flashes and
you will hear a sound sequence. After approx. 2 seconds the speed controller's "self test" is completed.
A sound sequence is output again, and the LED is lit permanently green. The speed controller is now
ready for operation.
Where the transmitter's neutral position is misadjusted too far – e.g. due to trimming, the
respective deviating control signals are also sent by the transmitter. However, the speed
controller can only process a deviating neutral position within a certain control range. Where the
transmitter is too badly "mis-trimmed", the speed controller cannot calibrate and will not react to
control signals. The LED at the speed controller flashes green. Check the neutral throttle position
on the transmitter.
Operating Information
Please note:
If the throttle is moved directly from forwards to reverse, the brake of the speed controller is activated
(vehicle does NOT reverse!) Place the throttle lever from reverse driving to neutral position while the
vehicle is still in motion and then back to reverse driving. The motor will start up in the reverse.
This style of driving facilitates wear of gear and tyres power consumption is also increased and
will shorten the driving time. Therefore, we recommend to only start driving again when the
model has stopped.
If you set full throttle forwards at your transmitter, the LED at the speed controller has to flash red quickly
(at partial load) or be lit red permanently (for full throttle) and your model must move forwards. If this is
not the case, swap both motor connections and possibly make the required settings for reverse throttle
at the transmitter.
The speed controller does not switch off the motor and is in the neutral position. The LED is lit green.
If the switch-off voltage is reached, the vehicle stops and the LED in the speed controller flashes green.
Stop driving to prevent deep discharge and possible damage to the battery.
The speed controller switches off in case of over temperature of the speed controller (approx. 95°C,
see section "Technical Data"). If this is the case, stop driving immediately. In this case, verify, e.g., the
transmission and easy running of the drive. Also check that the speed controller is exposed to enough
driving wind (cooling air).
The speed controller will work as usually again after the inner temperature cools off to approx. 40°C. Find
the reason for overheating anyway and remove the defect permanently.
If the speed controller/motor does not work or if moving the throttle does not cause the motor to run,
switch off the speed controller. Check neutral position on the transmitter. Put the drive trim control in
centre position and let go of the throttle (or put it in centre position as well). Check if the transmitter is
switched on, if the correct crystals are used and if the batteries/rechargeable batteries in the transmitter
and the vehicle are charged.
End of Operation
First switch off the speed controller (put switch in the "OFF" position).
Disconnect the rechargeable battery from the speed controller.
Now switch off the transmitter.
Care and Cleaning
Disconnect the product from the power supply before each cleaning.
Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents, rubbing alcohol or other chemical solutions as they can
cause damage to the housing and malfunctioning.
Clean the product with a dry, fibre-free cloth.
