2.5 The built-in steam locomo-
tive sound effects circuit
This locomotive comes from the
factory with a built-in steam locomo-
tive sound effects circuit that can be
used only with Märklin Digital or Delta.
This sound effects circuit does not
simply produce synthetic hissing
sounds; it reproduces the original
sound of a steam locomotive depen-
ding on the latter's speed and direc-
tion. This enables changes in the
sound picture depending on the
locomotive's operation. If you should
hear unrecognisable sounds from
time to time from the sound effects
circuit, make sure that these are not
the actual prototype sounds before
taking the locomotive back to the
dealer for warranty adjustment.
The sound effects circuit can be
turned off manually. The on/off
switch under the left water tank is
used for this purpose.

Since this manual switch is used
to turn the sound effects circuit on
and off, function "f2" is available for
turning on the bell sound effect
(see section 2.4.1.2).
The sound effects circuit must
remain turned off in conventional
operation with direct or alternating
current!
2.5.1 Setting the volume
A pot adjustment (P3) on the circuit
plate is used to regulate the total
volume of the sound effects circuit.
To do this remove the right water
tank (see page 48).

Operation
Important tip:
Next to the pot adjustment for the
volume on the circuit plate are
8 coding switches. These switches
are used at the factory to set the
sound effects circuit for optimal per-
formance with your locomotive. For
that reason never change the setting
for these switches!
