Dressing application
WARNING
Review all Invia Abdominal Dressing Kit safety information before beginning with the
preparation of open abdominal wound. Ensure sufficient hemostasis has been achieved
prior to dressing application (refer to Bleeding section under WARNINGS).
Step 1: Prepare the open abdominal wound
Step 2: Apply the Organ Contact Layer (OCL)
Either side of the OCL may be applied to exposed organs.
Moistened gloves (saline solution or sterile water) may facilitate application of the OCL.
10
– Eliminate any sharp edges or bone fragments from
wound area.
– Ensure any areas of necrosis are appropriately debrided.
– Irrigate abdominal wound as needed.
– Clean and thoroughly dry the periwound area.
– Remove kit contents from pouch and prepare the OCL
in a sterile field.
– If necessary, cut the OCL to a size that fits the abdominal
cavity.
– If cutting the OCL to a different size, ensure that each piece
removed has been disposed of properly, away from the
open wound.
– Center the OCL over the abdominal cavity. Gently work it
down to cover all exposed organs, including intestines and
liver, and into the paracolic gutters. If there is excess mate-
rial of the OCL this can be folded back onto itself.
– Make sure that all viscera are protected by the OCL.
