For the assembly of the stem, in addition to basic knowledge of assembly and mechanics, a 4/5 mm hex key and a corresponding 4/5 mm
torque wrench are required. For the assembly of the Ahead cap, an additional hex key may be required.
To mount the SQlab 8OX stem, slightly loosen the screws of the stem and insert the stem onto the steerer, making sure that the stem
protrudes at least 2 mm in order to be able to mount the Ahead cap. (Fig. 4)
Now mount an Ahead cap suitable for your steerer and stem and use it to adjust the bearing clearance.
It is important to remember that the Ahead screw only serves to adjust the bearing clearance. When the stem clamping screws are loos-
ened, tighten them so that there is no discernible play in the bearings when the front wheel is moved from side to side with the brake
engaged. In order to correctly adjust the bearing clearance, it is essential to observe the assembly instructions for your forks and your
headset.
(Fig.4)
Now that you have adjusted the bearing clearance of your headset, tighten the shaft clamp bolts alternately by small increments up to
the specified torque of 8 Nm (6 Nm 8OX Trial Fabio Wibmer) unless otherwise limited, for example by the steerer, and then check the
stem for its torsional safety.
To mount the handlebars, unscrew the two clamps completely. Pay attention to the correct clamping diameter of 31.8 mm and a clamping
range of at least 50 mm! Keep in mind SQlab 8OX Trial Fabio Wibmer has a more narrow clamping diameter of 40 mm!
Now insert the handlebars into the stem, ensuring that they are centred.
Note
Note
In the case of the SQlab 8OX stem, it may be that there are special design features so
that using light pressure the handlebars are snapped into the stem and held there.
