HMI lamp
The lamp used in this system operates at a high internal pressure, and can
explode if it is used beyond it's intended lifespan. We therefore recommend
that you replace the lamp before it has reached the number of hours indicated
by the lamp manufacturer. The built-in elapsed time meter (9) will provide you
with the necessary information.
4.1
Protecting glass
A protecting glass is provided for protection against lamp explosion and UV
radiation; the unit will not operate if this cover is not in place. The glass is
available in several versions. The lamps are delivered with a mat, coated
protecting glass as standard equipment; they are optimised for the stringent
requirements of photographic applications, but of course can also be used for
video applications and for electronic imaging. With certain attachments, better
results can be obtained with a different protecting glass; the recommended
part for such cases is shown in the table in section 3.5.
4.2
Replacing the lamp
Never replace a lamp without first removing the lamphead from the ballast
unit!
First remove the protecting glass, then loosen the counter-reflector screws (8)
so the counter-reflector can be pulled off over the lamp. Then replace the
lamp, and reinstall the counter-reflector and protecting glass.
To make sure you know when to replace the lamp the next time, we suggest
you write down the elapsed time meter reading (9) on the piece of paper in
the plastic case attached to the light.
4.3
Cooling fan
Cooling is provided by a special low-noise fan in the lamphead. It operates
even when the lamp switch is off, and is compatible with Pulso accessories.
When you turn off the lamp, the fan speed increases so the unit cools down
faster.
4.4
Thermal protection
Each light is equipped with a thermal protection, and will shut off if
overheating (the fan will continue to operate). If this happens, we recommend
that you also switch off the light manually, to prevent it from switching back on
automatically when it cools down.
