Preparing the Joint

1. See appropriate Fitting Systems operator's manual for
proper joint preparations, prior to pressing.
Pressing A Fitting With Typical Scissor
Jaw Set

in fitting, as specified in Fitting Systems operator's
manual.
2. Squeeze jaw arms to open the jaw set (Figure 7).

3. Place open jaws around the fitting. Make sure the
contour of the jaw set is properly aligned with the con-
tour of the fitting as specified in Fitting Systems oper-
ator's manual (Figure 8).

4. Make sure the tool is square to the tubing and depress
the switch (Figure 9). The pressing cycle takes about
seven (7) seconds. Once a press cycle begins and the
rollers contact the jaw arms, the tool will lock-on and
automatically complete the press cycle. Releasing
the trigger will not stop the tool once the pressing pro-
cess has begun. This assures consistent, repeat-
able press joint integrity. Releasing the trigger before
8
the pressing process begins will cause the rollers to
automatically retract to the starting position.

NOTE! If yellow LED service indicator blinks, the tool
should be sent to a RIDGID Authorized Service
Center for required maintenance. The tool will not
run if it is not maintained within 2,000 cycles
after the first blinking yellow LED.
5. After cycle is complete, green LED should blink three
(3) times indicating jaws closed properly. The green
LED will then revert back to a solid light. Press jaw
arms to open the jaw set.
6. Remove the 320-E Press Tool from tube.
Avoid sharp edges that may have formed on
CAUTION
the fitting during the pressing operation.
NOTE! Depending on the tool attachment and fitting
system, the ram position detection may have
been disabled during the actuator calibration pro-
cess, if disabled the tool will not detect ring clo-
sure. No visible or audible warning will be
provided to detect if an obstruction existed in
the ring set. Thus, it is important to follow steps in
the "Inspecting The Press Joint" section.

Inspecting the Press Joint

• If the 320-E or jaw set malfunctions and does
not press the fitting, this will be indicated by
several rapid blinks of the red LED accompanied
by audible beeps. In this instance, it is neces-
sary to repress the fitting taking care to align
the jaw in its original orientation on the fitting.
• The 320-E Press Tool will turn off automatically if
the battery is too low to successfully complete a
press joint. This will be indicated by several blinks
of red LED and beeps of alarm followed by con-
tinuous glow of red LED for several seconds ac-
companied by a continuous tone of the alarm.
